My gas gauge, which has been very politely waving at me for months now, has failed on "Full". So one good news is I will save money on gas now. :)

When I pull the dash to replace it, what is a good source for these gauges, and what other gauges are good to replace at this time? Also, considering replacing all of the bulbs while I'm in there. So suggestions on more modern bulb replacement would be helpful.

Thanks,

Are you planning on replacing just the stepper motors or the whole cluster?

I run Sylvania 194s in Cool White in my Esky cluster; the blue appearance is due to the tint on the backside of the 120 Speedo.

Truck is a 2000 K 2500 (in signature).

I am open to options, but don't want to get into issues with the odometer. Let me know how it went when you did the swap, or a link to a thread you already detailed it.

I'm also doing a double din install, and changing out the climate control knobs while I am in there.

If you're sure the gauge is the issue... order a replacement Gauge and while in there replace the lamps.. since you have the dash opened up. I have an 88 so can't help on bulb types and such. Mine are 194 or 168s the 94's are lower wattage and the 68 are higher, even though they are interchangeable have to be careful where the higher wattage could cause a heat warp. YMMV.

I took my time and followed the instructional thread; swapping the odometers, cleaning the cluster, swapping in the LEDs probably took me a total of 45 minutes.
I did have an issue where my trip meter stopped working; and I had put about 500 miles on it before I could fix it. I was able to pull a trip meter from my original cluster and swap it in;

I only found 1 source for a replacement stepper for 96-98 trucks which would be the same for the 2000 if it's a obs classic body. It was on eBay and ran about $40 shipped. Took me about 10min to install, but you will need to remove the needles to do this. There is a video on youtube of how to replace it but it's pretty straight forward. I also did blue LEDs and white needles while I had it apart.

I had the gas gauge in my 96 Yukon bouncing around for quite a while and figured a stepper motor as well. Most instrument clusters in the local Pick-n-Pull had the gas gauge stepper motors already scavenged. When the fuel pump failed, found the real problem for the gas gauge to be the sending unit had detached from the side of the fuel pump module. Also, while I had the instrument cluster out I changed all the bulbs out for LEDs, bulbs in my cluster were 194 for general illumination and 74 for individual warning lights/indicators.
