So i know you need a scan tool that reads live data and the cam position and the vortec need to be set at 0*tdc - 2*tdc. Now i hate to take my truck to the dealer to set this i was wondering if anyone knew if anyone sold a scanner that reads the cmp? That isn't going to brake the bank lol prob not any in the $100-$175 range. But figured i'd ask.

I got acceptable results by cutting "windows" in an old distributor cap. After installing, and reconnecting spark wires. Start engine, wedge something into throttle body linkage to idle around 1000rpm. Slowly rotate distributor back, and forth while watching for a short straight spark. Neither leaning advance,or retard. Tighten distributor, and re-install cap, resecure spark wires. No codes for me using this method...

I was able to down load Torque Pro onto my laptop. Can't wait to try and adjust the cam retard angle on 4.3L. The settings went in as designed above. By the way, where did you come up with this setting??

You're gonna have to mod the distributor housing to adjust it, and hope the chain isn't stretched so bad you can't get it into spec. The 4.3 used the wimpy LT4 roller chain. Looks like a bike chain.

I used an el-cheapo ELM327 module from amazon, and dash command for the android. look for the PID in the program for CMP RETARD, and rev the engine above 1000 RPMS's. that will tell you where you're sitting at. Then adjust as needed.. just rev above 1k after every adjustment so the sensor picks up correctly. took me less than ten minutes to adjust mine in.
