    2wd headers tend to be longtubes, 4wd tend to be shorties. Long tubes make more power, shorties don't do as much. Do a search for camshaft, there are a pile of threads with lots of detail. There are a couple of GM cams, a couple of comps, and a couple of lunatti that usually come up...

    I've always had bad luck ordering seals ahead of time. There always seems to be a couple versions of these things in slightly different measurements. Whichever one I order, is the one I don't have.

    Anyone ever change out a crank position sensor?

    There are shims intended to get the air gap set correctly. I believe you're supposed to use a small piece of playdoh on the sensor, torque it down, and remove it to measure the gap. Check the FSM for exact details, I can't recall it offhand.

    The second bit is a switch. In my truck, when the front dif is actuated the switch is tripped and it completes the circuit to the lightbulb in the 4x4 lever housing. I assume its similar with the electronic transfer case models, but maybe not. 97 was supposedly the year a lot of models started...

    Just the backing plate right? It doesn't look like they go through the friction material. A blind guess on my part is harmonic resonance, but I'm definitely no engineer. I'll await the more informed among us to correct me.

    I've been keeping my eyes open for the Vortec 5.7 whipples, but they aren't common. The TBI kits come up every few months. This on is pricey, but maybe the seller is open to a more down-to-earth offer.
