"we used to manufacture a VFPR- i have not followed this for a long time so don't know what is out there now. GM used to make a housing that was used in the marine TBI systems than could be easily adapted if you can find one. I did see on line that there are several DIY instructions Pressure...

Do you have any recommendations for a vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator? When checking/setting the fuel pressure, should this be done prior to the fuel filter or near the throttle body? In the past, when we did a fuel pressure test, we hooked up the test kit prior to the fuel filter. I...

Use a vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator and raise the base fuel pressure to around 15-16 psi ( will reguire different fuel pump in the tank (94-95 454 tbi pump)...

First of all thanks for all that replied to my inquiry. I was able to find a guy who used to do the TBI to Vortec swaps while using the original TBI computer. I'm going to include a few posts. The suggestions are basically step by step directions on how to smoothly complete this swap.

Yeah, I gave you the block casting number. It's a crate motor, so I'm not certain where I'd find the number you mentioned. Thanks for the tuning advice, much appreciated.

The engine part is 102433880. Yes the engine surges at idle. I contacted a tuning company nearby, and it sounds like they would be willing to tune it.

Thanks for the reply. The Vortec motor came with a GM performance intake, and I'm using my original TBI.

    Computer Flash Questions

I recently took my 93 Silverado into a shop because my engine surges at idle. Before bringing the truck in I tested the EGR valve, EGR solenoid, did a fuel pressure test, improved the ground wires, tested for vacuum leaks, I suspected the problem might be with the computer. I used to have a 350...

    Idle Problems

Thanks for the post. I'm going to have to perform some experiments on the truck. I tested the donor engine's EGR valve on the truck a while back and it ran similarly to how it runs now (surging, etc.). I might try plugging the vacuum port just to see what happens.

    Idle Problems

My Dad and I tested the vacuum line on the brake booster. We unplugged the line from the booster itself and sealed it while the truck was in drive. Unfortunately, the truck still surged at idle. Therefore, the booster line is not the problem. I was really hopeful that this was going to be the...

    Idle Problems

Shurkey, thanks for the detailed response. The intake I have is a Chevy/GM performance intake. The picture you provided is the same one I have. I painted mine to match the rest of the engine. Based on your explanation, it appears my EGR valve is not functional. It's just for looks ;-). The donor...

    Idle Problems

Schurkey, sorry for the delay. I thought my thread died until I checked it yesterday. My current setup in my truck has the EGR valve connected to the EGR solenoid by vacuum line. I attached a picture of it. The previous owner had this motor in a 92 Camaro. I also attached a picture of it. The...

Thanks for the advice. At this point, I don't have any vacuum leaks and the EGR valve is not working intermittently.

    Idle Problems

I have a 93 Silverado with a recently swapped crate 350 Vortec engine. The performance of the engine is great except at idle. The engine surges at idle, and the tachometer will regularly bounce between 600 to 900 rpm. Then occasionally the engine will die out at idle. I regularly get a 32 Code...
