    GCWR -Suburban

Kudos to you for recognizing this! 1500's were never really designed for heavy towing, but that doesn't stop many people from doing it anyway. I shake my head everytime I see some 1/2 ton truck with its rear end squatting almost to the ground, pulling some trailer that's clearly WAY beyond the...

Trailer Life Towing Guides (free online, a new edition released every year) are the source I always used to determine towing capacity. It’s the general go-to in the RV circles I’m a part of. Those TL guides go back to 1999 and I extended that data back to 1995 (since there is no other source...

Found my problem or rather it found me today

Agreed 100% with @thebigcar … overuse of ethanol in gasoline is what clogs everything up when it sits too long. If you can find non-ethanol fuel in your area (check out www.pure-gas.org) it’s probably more expensive, but worthwhile for anything motorized that’s going to be sitting for awhile.

    Replacement Key Fob

Mine was the same (square style) for my 95 Burb C2500. I bought a used OEM replacement on eBay for less than $10, programmed it easily, and it worked fine for 4-5 years until I sold the Burb. As others mentioned, search by FCC ID number to find one that will work with your truck.

    Prep for towing?

Hey I won’t be the one to make any major life decisions for you… ;) Just my experience so far, with my first diesel. With a small to midsize trailer like the OP described, a gas truck/Burb would do just fine.

    Prep for towing?

^^ This! I also towed my 35' 9500# trailer with a 1995 Burb C2500 (454, 4.10 gears). Even though the stock rear end was very stout, and barely squatted with my trailer attached, the WDH and airbags on my Burb really leveled things nicely and substantially smoothed out the ride. Although your...

    What's your mpg...

    My old GMT400 was a 1995 Suburban C2500 -- 454 non-vortec -- 4L80 -- 4.10 -- stock 245/75R16 tires. Empty commuting I averaged around 10 to 10.5mpg. Towing my 9500# travel trailer was usually a stellar 6.5 to 7mpg. :driver:

    F*** Mice

YES on the bucket traps, if you have the space. Rodent infestation is a popular topic on the RV forum I frequent. And the drowning portion of the trap can be filled with antifreeze instead of water, so it won’t freeze if set up during the winter and also has a preservation effect to keep the...

Heavy Duty Shock Suggestions for 1999 C2500 For Hauling Truck Camper

Dry weight of the camper is a nice idea, but rarely accurate since (1) nobody hauls them empty, and (2) those numbers are often underrated from the factory. At some point you should weigh your rig fully loaded for camping and see where you stand, so you know if the components of your truck can...

Heavy Duty Shock Suggestions for 1999 C2500 For Hauling Truck Camper

Does that truck have the payload (or CCC = Cargo Carrying Capacity) needed for a camper that heavy? I’d kinda be shocked if it did, as 3500# sounds like 1-ton dually territory. Axle and/or tire ratings are usually the limiting OEM factors between 2500 and 3500 series for instance. Maybe you’ve...

Who has tried LED head lights

Same here with Auxbeam LEDs from Amazon. Installed them on my 95 Suburban and they were outstanding, putting the OEM bulbs to absolute shame. The light cast out is so clear & white and projects so well, I doubt you’ll even need the high beams any more. They fit right into the factory housing...

Any secrets for a bumping MPG on 1998 305?

His mileage is around town is pretty much to be expected IMO… low teens for stop-n-go city driving and lots of idling in hot months. Fast acceleration and fast braking ruin mpgs more than anything else, so lengthen those processes as much as possible. The more $$ you spend on “upgrades” to...

    Interior light issue

Sounds like a wire shorting out somewhere. Might need to start by checking the wire bundle running between the body and the door… on some GMs that was subject to twisting and wires breaking over time. There’s probably a black rubber accordion-like cover to peel back in the door crack so you can...

    Tire pressure with LT tires

I’m not sure about 1500s but my Suburban C2500 had two stickers with tire load info for non-towing and towing. It recommended 35 front / 50 rear for regular driving, and 45 front / 80 rear for towing (which I did with a 9500# travel trailer). Even then I found full 80 psi rear to be way too...

    Hot pursuit!

Awesome!! I have a Dixie horn on my 1969 Pontiac Executive. Even that is a crowd pleaser! Did you happen to stop and chat with that group at all? They had to be headed to/from a show since they had a period Dodge Monaco and modern Crown Vic squad cars in the convoy too. It looks like Hazzard...
