12V battery charger question for the experts

How about a 24V HVAC timer relay like what is inside an air handler? I can imagine it probably works about the same with 12V, or you can get one that explicity takes 12v. It would certainly be a lot less likely to overcharge the battery with something like that, although risk not completely...

My 1989 Silverado is totaled - What years / parts Interchange?

I regret to say I'm in a similar boat myself. March always seems to be a string of bad luck for me. Below is the current condition of my baby (92 c1500); was on the freeway 2 weeks ago and a Ram in front of me spun out for seemingly no reason and I couldn't stop in time, even though I had all...

    No Power to Speedometer?

I only went for a short drive so I can't say atm. But it was working, and accurate, for that entire drive and I was going over some considerable bumps!

    88-94 vs. 95-98 Interior Debate

If you have 2wd, just drive it long enough solo that the driver side coil spring is forever sagged and that will even out the issue :Big Laugh:

    No Speedometer/Odometer

To my knowledge there is a manufacturing defect in nearly all the new replacement speed sensors you can get for these trucks. Something with the magnet on the end that tracks the speed - I've heard of someone having to file it down a bit because it was hitting the spinning tailshaft of the trans...

    No Power to Speedometer?

1992 C1500 with the 700R4 here. So I've had an intermittently working speedometer, most days it's just totally dead no matter what speed you're going, and if I'm lucky enough to hit a serious pothole it comes back briefly. Started by replacing the VSS and its pigtail (the old wiring was soaked...

    Speedometer and Odometer Not working.

I'm in the same boat right now with an intermittent speedo. In your case with an '88 the VSSB unit would have been built into the cluster and that's why a swap worked. Since I have a '92 in my case the VSSB unit is separately mounted, behind the glove box. So far I determined there is a 12V+...

    Speedometer failure needing help

The ECM could be acting up. To my knowledge the last leg of the loop (after the VSS on the trans tailshaft and VSSB behind the glove box) is where the final, modified signal leaves the ECM and goes right into the speedo via inst. cluster wiring harness. This fellow has a good writeup on how to...

First and Last Bluetop Steering Gear

I did send it back around a year ago and I was told they in fact had to take some play out with the adjustment, and also "lightened up a valve" to make it easier to steer. Not quite sure what that entails. As of now, it's doing great and I wonder if these trucks were like this fresh off the floor!

First and Last Bluetop Steering Gear

I wound up sending it back twice. First time, because of the issue stated in this thread, second, the pitman seal blew not too long after I had it back. If it wasn't for their fast customer service, and had R&R'd my box for free, I'd be SOL. Cheap rebuilt unit held me over until I received it...

    Steering Pump Bleed Procedure?

Welp, turned out the pitman seal in my recently rebuilt Bluetop gearbox was the culprit. This will be the 5th time I yank out the gear in 3 years! I bet this is what got the old pump low on fluid and caused it to fail.

Got a simple Towing question? look here!

Update 1/23/22: The two I mentioned that had the weird "square nut" on them indeed are the bumper mounts you are referencing. It turns out those were square capture nuts that are supposed to be welded to the bumper support but mine were so rusted that they just broke free with the bolts, haha! I...

Heavy duty stuff! I think I'm good to run to the hardware store. Grade 8, 1/2" or so diameter. Washers just to be safe. Thanks for the help

Ok - sounds about right - there were 6 of them correct? And 2 had some weird square nut on there. Not sure I'm going to recreate that.

Anyone know the stock bolt size for the trailer hitch? Like a dummy I threw all mine in the scrap pile when I removed my hitch for rust removal. I wanna say the ones there were M14 thread.
