So my 1999 Suburban has a lot of key related issues. All three of the door locks (driver, passenger, and rear) are in need of replacement. The keyless remote won't accept programming anymore on new keyfobs (I know the procedure). The ignition switch is starting to show signs of failure (have to...
My 1999 C1500 Sub runs great (well, for now lol) and is approaching 260 miles. L31 Vortec 5.7. Cylinder heads, new mpfi injectors, and lifters replaced a couple years ago. No knocking, oil kept changed, and I drive it hard, maybe 5k miles per year. Trans fluid swapped annually (pan drop, I have...
Gents, after chasing this odd problem and scratching my head for months I finally seemed to have gotten rid of it.
I changed my cam retard from -1.85 to +2.9 and the stumble is gone. I'm reading the cam retard with an app and Bluetooth obd.
I tried this on a whim after reading other posts of...
So I've owned 2 1990 half tons (4.3 and 5.7) and a 93 S10.
The S10 was only 4 years old when I got it with 25k miles. The 1990 4.3 was 8 years old with about 90k, and the 1990 5.7 was a solid 25 years old well over 200k.
They all had valve rattle when accelerating "lightly to moderately". No...
I've put about 50 miles on it so far since having it towed home and no malfunction.
Today I'm putting it on Jacks and looking around. I'll check especially for damaged wheel sensor.
Well we got it home, it's driving with no other symptoms. So whatever it is it's intermittent.
Pedal is firm. Firmer than most gmt400 vehicles honestly
So yesterday my wife got stranded because the 99 Suburban C1500 broke down. Symptoms are a sudden ABS light on the dash (ABS functioned properly with no light prior to this).
Also, the truck wouldn't accelerate. Engine RPM increased but very sluggish acceleration.
Truck only just now arrived...
I agree. I'm not suggesting people do it. But using the ATF got me home, I flushed it the next day. Fluid still looks pink but after several years, no leaks thankfully.
I doubt it will be an issue. I put Max life trans fluid in my Honda Odyssey ps pump because it blew a fitting and I just happened to have bought a gallon of Max Life that morning
I used almost the whole gallon to get home. Fixed the leak, purged the system with a couple quarts of Honda fluid...
I'm tempted to spend the money on a Redhead quick ratio box. That's a lot of cash but apparently it really helps regain the feel of the road. My wife drives this old Sub and honestly it's a tricky beast to drive even for me.
I may decide to rebuild the box but not sure if the gears are worn...
It's a fairly light 16ft bass boat with a 70hp 2 stroke. Since I drive the truck more cautiously when towing, the trans is probably safer towing that dealing with my lead foot when not towing
Just an update. This old transmission still kicking. I boosted the line pressure with a handheld tuner and the 2-3 flare went away. I've towed popup campers and bass boats, gone from West Virginia to Marathon Key Florida on that transmission.
