    The Stupid Axle Questions Thread

Will the differentials out of a 96 k1500 Suburban (at pullapart) fit a 98 k1500 extended cab? My 98 has 3.42 gears and the 96 has 3.73 gears and larger rear brakes. Both have standard suspension. I am going to church but I will check for reply when I get home

    Serpentine belt idler (Vortec 5.7)

Buy a complete tensioner, the pivot is a wear item also. I have seen them come apart and its usually a disaster. The more they wear, more belt misalignment.

1997 350/5 speed clutch line problems.

My 1986 C10 has a 4.3 with 3 speed manual. I have had to replace both slave and master twice since truck was new. Best way I have found to bleed air out is to force fluid from slave cylinder upwards to master cylinder. I used a large syringe I got at Tractor Supply. I loosened bleeder screw on...

    Is the EGR. Delete good

In 1978 I bought a new Z/28, took that nasty EGR off because it had to run better, right? Nope !!! Could not tell any difference in performance and it went from 17 mpg to 14 mpg. Modern engines are a system, unless you modify the engine or PCM program it's better to leave it working as is. And...

    Newb, sort of 93 K1500 5 Speed

Gorgeous truck. The only advice I have is to have fun with it.

    Dual batteries

My buddy added an extra battery to his work truck to run his inverter to charge his 18v drill batteries without having to run the engine. Had it wired to a constant duty relay triggered by an added oil pressure switch to charge it. Just info.

    Proform 66668 Diff Cover

AS my momma used to say," Its not always what you say, but how you say it". You could cast Valve covers from iron and they would work great but be ugly as sin.

    Proform 66668 Diff Cover

I would get it because it just looks good! lol Why would anyone buy aluminum valve covers if not for appearance.

    91 octane

High octane gas has less heat energy(lower BTU content) in it because they use lighter solvents with higher ignition points and slower burn rates. Used to help build refineries, petroleum engineers everywhere that loved talking about stuff like that. The alcohol used in the blend has at best 75%...

    88 350 TBI timing

What he said. TBI heads are high swirl fast burn that don't need as much advance to make power. You may benefit with more timing using high octane gas but not with 87 octane.

    Dual Exhaust Question

A balance pipe or x pipe is always a good idea. It changes the sound frequency so it sounds "better". I had 3" pipes and chambered mufflers on my hotrod, sounded so much better and quieter after I added balance tube. Its not really quieter, it just sounded that way. Especially inside car. A...

UCA to frame torque spec too high?

Those bushings have a sleeve in the center to limit crush and to act as a bearing surface for the urethane bushing. Of course there may be a slight difference in the length of said sleeve to allow less or more crush to positively locate control arm. Look at directions for install of arms for...

    Dual Exhaust Question

Stocker cams are a special grind. They may have stock lift but you can move LSA angles and LCL around. Plus they are ground with very aggressive ramps, or at least that's what I remember. Also everything else is optimized to the limits of the rules. Valve angles, spring pressures, chamber...

    Header bolts-tool suggestions?

Most small block header 6 point bolts I have used are 7/16" or 3/8" head size on a 3/8-16 thread bolt. You can buy quality socket head cap screws at nut and bolt suppliers that will fit but are a little tedious to install. I have sometimes made a spacer out of small pipe and used a longer bolt...
