Damn. After a week and a half and like 6 full tanks later of driving I was coasting to a stop at a light and it started chugging. Torque shows that cylinder 2 has a steady misfire. It's bad enough where there's some vibration when accelerating from a stop but then it seems ok at cruising speed.
Well I found some grounds attached to the frame right underneath the AC condenser. One ground went to the firewall and had rotted away and was no longer connected. The 2nd ground, I'm assuming went to the back of the cylinder head but it wasn't connected to anything so I just put it on the stud...
Yeah after making sure the cmp offset was in the correct range I'm still experiencing drivability issues. It's sputtering on acceleration sometimes the idle gets weird too.
Still need to check fuel pressure and these grounds. Where are they on this motor? Back of the cylinder head? Where on the...
Nah no smoke that I can see. My scanner app shows that the cmp offset is over almost 2° positive. Haven't had a chance to loosen the dizzy and wiggle it around yet.
Absolutely right. This article explained it all to me.

Luckily I have EFILive and a scan cable. So tomorrow I will be grabbing my laptop and seeing what's up with that cam offset
Ok, EGR seems unrelated. I had the distributor wire unplugged still from earlier. Just plugged it in after idling for 5-10 minutes, instantly had a horrible idle. What does this mean? You called it a cam position sensor, but it most certainly is the 3 pin connector at the base of the distributor
I'm getting the feeling the guy diagnosed the hell out of it and gave up and that's why he let it go.
Could it be the EGR? I disconnected for ***** and giggles and it's a super steady idle. Haven't driven to test cause the rear brakes are out at the moment
The way it seems to cut out on me...
So what does the distributor computer wire do? It clearly doesn't do anything to the tachometer like I've seen on an older 350. Did they possibly remove the wire (I believe you have to do this to get base timing on older generations?), then verified the cam offset with the scan tool and forgot...
I just reached behind the intake to see what it was I plugged in and I'm positive it WAS the distributor computer wire.
So many questions, how did it get me from Wisconsin to the twin cities with that unplugged. With no codes.
Good to know! Thank you! The guy said he replaced tank and the sender. It's a steel tank and it's shiny. So you may be on to something with that relay.
If it was indeed the distributor computer wire that I found disconnected and I plugged it in, I'm not very hopeful that they used a scan tool...
