    Low beams not turning on?

If it is the older style interior, look under the dash you'll see the switch on the column with a rod running to the turn signal switch. Unplug the connector and put a jumper between the middle wire and one of the outside ones. One wire will give you high one will give you low. If you can get...

    To rebuild or not

Huh that never even crossed my mind that I could just use a different brand intake. I did eventually find an edelbrock one with provisions for fuel rails for a vortec but it is around $1000. It looks like Holley makes one thats a bit of a different design but it comes with fuel rails and its a...

    To rebuild or not

I guess the best thing is run a leak down test on it and if it’s in good shape see if I can get just the intake from Edelbrock without buying everything, don’t touch the heads or anything. If not, pull the heads and look further check the bores etc

    To rebuild or not

Well the main reason is I don’t want any leaks to form so I’m changing all the gaskets. The reason to get rid of the vortec heads is that I have an Edelbrock MPFI (pro flo 4) and I don’t think you can buy just the intake to switch it to vortec, you need the entire kit again. It looks like a...

    To rebuild or not

Thank you, the pistons were moreso my concern. The original plan was to either just send the block out or drill hone it and put new rings in it, though I think I’d rather send it out but I noticed the kit can come with bearings rings gaskets and with or without pistons and I figure if I was...

    To rebuild or not

Hi, I have a vortec 350 from a 99 Tahoe. It has low mileage (180,000km) and as far as I know doesn’t burn any oil, runs perfectly quiet. I’ll be switching the heads most likely to pre 87 heads to fit my intake but I’m not looking for a lot of performance. Keeping stock cam etc. I can’t...

    Vintage Air 88-94 System

It's probably cheaper to just use factory parts and retrofit them into the truck, though it is neat to see they finally support them

Installing Air Conditioning on a Non Air Conditioning Truck

Now that I think about it, when I was originally going to use all the controls I cut the wires I needed from the harness and rewired it to make it a stand alone harness. That is possibly what you will have to do. I would assume it would fit if you were to swap the entire harness, maybe someone...

Installing Air Conditioning on a Non Air Conditioning Truck

You should be okay. I had the entire unit out of the 98 I was originally going to swap in and managed to wire it up and have full function of all actuators etc. The only reason I didn't end up using it is because I wouldve had to make a custom control switch so it didn't look out of place in...

    Solder vs crimps

I generally solder wires. I find it just gives you a more clean look when you're trying to wrap harnesses. Not only that, but it is a lot cheaper than quality connectors. When I do crimp, the biggest thing is to make sure you're using a half decent tool that is capable of crimping them as...

Oil Leak at rear of Engine & Top of tranny

You don't have to pull anything, you just need an oil pressure socket. I swapped mine last week it was slightly tight of an area but the only thing I took off was the air intake. It's threaded into an elbow. I used a flex head ratchet with the socket and it took me maybe 5 minutes to change...

Carb swapping an 88 5.7 TBI, parts recommendations

I did it to mine. Honestly I swapped the entire engine but the principle is the same. Electric chokes are generally better (depending on who you ask) as they're as simple as pressing the gas pedal once to engage it and set the choke, then it pulls off automatically. Manual chokes will give...

Installing Air Conditioning on a Non Air Conditioning Truck

Hi, I am posting this to show what has to be done in order to install A/C on a GMT400 that did not come with A/C. I wanted to keep the manual climate control, with cables and do the swap as cheap as possible (basically free). Here's a basic write up of what I did. The total swap took me a...

    Edelbrock electric choke wiring

Theres a junction block under the dash on the driver's side, one empty terminal there labeled IGN for key on power, I assume its for accessories. Use a spade connector to tap into that and put a 5A fuse and run it to your choke.

    Non- A/C Heater Box.

Alright I’ve done my swap today...my factory non A/C truck (92) has the exact same box as one with A/C (98), the difference being the actual mode doors have levers moulded on instead of a piece to add an actuator, as well as the blower housing has a slightly different recirculate door as it’s...
