    Transmission goes boom.

I agree. Any time I have been towing and I can keep it in 3rd with the TC locked everything is good. When I have to use 2nd though things start to heat up quick since the TC doesn't lock in 2nd. Have any of you ever had the TC re-programmed to lock in 2nd??

That's awesome to have a builder you trust

    Transmission goes boom.

Always run a cooler and a temp gauge. Heat is the number one killer of transmissions. How does a 60e die behind the 2.2 in the s10? It has nothing to do with power and everything to do with lack of power. Torque converter locking and unlocking more often, more gear hunting. All of that generates...

Towing and sucking gas like crazy.

This is not enough information to actually tell what mileage you are getting. Have you calculated your fuel mileage? We don't know if there is a problem if we don't know your actual fuel mileage. Going by the gauge is not accurate at all. Unloaded I average between 15L/100km and 18L/100km...

    When my GMT400 isn't enough...

It can tow that load just fine, you will just be slow. If your Suburban is a 95, then its running the tbi 7.4, which was rated at 230 HP and 385 ft-lb. For more relaxed towing, you want more power. But really it can tow that load fine, but you will be slow. By contrast the 1996 got the Vortec...

    GM crate engines?

I had the HD 4 bolt crate put in my 98 k1500 back in 2012 at a GM dealer. It did not affect the warranty. For the extra $100 I wanted the extra piece of mind. The 4 bold HD engine came with the 906 casting vortec heads, they had some differences in the exhaust valve that made them more robust...

    Ignorance is Bliss.

I have over 560,000km(350,000 miles) on my 98. 1998 was the first year of the electronic actuator if I am not mistaken. Its all original and works like new, engages immediately. If I ever got into an older obs with the thermal actuators, the electric actuator upgrade would be one of my first...

    Another 4l60e bites it

The 3-4 clutch pack is the failure point, but you have to figure out why it failed. Most of the time 3-4 clutch pack failure is a result of a worn 3-4 piston. When the 3-4 piston starts to fail, adequate pressure cannot be applied to the 3-4 clutch pack resulting in clutch failure. This shows...

    where to start (performance)

Do not do the throttle body mod. All you are doing is removing the linear application of power. It does not increase horsepower at wide open throttle. If you want your throttle to be supper jumpy giving the illusion of more power go for it. Your gas pedal controls how much air can enter the...

    Is my 5.7 4-bolt main?

I'm not sure on the TBI's but when it came to the Vortec's in the GMT400 platform, the 2 bolt block was used under 8600gvw, and that 4 bolt was anything 8600gvw and over. Yes, there may have been times when a 4 bolt could have been substituted in production for a 2 bolt, but that would be the...

    M.P.G. question

    1989 Chevy k1500 heavy half.

Decoded the F44 says Heavy duty chassis. I think what that involves is more leafs in the rear leaf pack, and maybe the bigger axel is part of that package? My F44 has the 14 bolt semi float rear end, and my leaf packs are 4 plus an overload.

    GMT400s in the Movies

And who remembers back when Disney did their Sunday night tv movie specials? One that I remember was called "Noah" starring Tony Danza. As a kid watching that movie all I cared about was the truck, I believe its a 1993 GMC. Since its a tv movie that I'm sure wasn't popular there arent many...
