Okay, this makes sense, since on a regular setup when you mash the gas it drops a gear. How I have been driving it is at part throttle, and in every other gear it’s been shifting ~2000 rpm and it just stays in 3rd. & I’ll try your suggestion for the lock up as well. Differences between a v6 and v8 governor

Correct geometry for 700r4 in a 350 carb set up
I recently got a transmission rebuilt and swapped it into my truck. It shifts fine into both 2nd and 3rd, but it’s not going into 4th. If you can remove the front radiator support it’ll make your life a lot easier. You could just then roll the truck back instead of having to drag the cherry picker out. Before you you go to pull it out, hook it up to a cherry picker, the way my brother and I did it is we had it so that most of the tension was towards the front so that as we jacked it up the motor would swing out towards the front. If you haven’t already make sure to drain the block itself too, there’s a plug on one side near the bottom of the engine block that’ll drain the block of any coolant it has inside.
