    Convertor stall and you

Very good description. After well over 35 years of drag racing, I couldn’t have said it better without writing a novel. The science of torque converters can be complex and I suggest that if a person finds a company that can build one to your satisfaction, stick with them.

    Obstruckparts.org

I agree. I just wanted to bring this website to everybody’s attention so it can be discussed beforehand. After looking it over I’ve become suspicious. Anybody have 1st hand experience?

I found some parts on obstruckparts.org. Is this a legitimate site?

    Knocking

Unfortunately mine doesn’t have a block heater. I guess it’s because I live in the south. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one except in a diesel. However I have noticed it being louder in cold weather and I have heard of it happening in other trucks like ours. Thanks for the reply.

    Knocking

That is a most informative reply.

    Knocking

I’ll try removing the belt. I didn’t think about that. I’m leaning toward a bad lifter even though the sound seems deeper. I built the transmission and checked the flex plate and its all good. Thanks.

Tbi 350 has no power on the road

Very good and inexpensive way to troubleshoot.

    Knocking

My ‘98 factory 5.7 makes a knocking sound after a cold start. I do have a good bit of engine experience but I haven’t come across anything quite like this. It starts the knock about 3-4 seconds after the start and continues for about 20 seconds then goes away. It doesn’t seem like a lifter...

Check your exhaust. The catalytic converter could be stopped up or the muffler could be restricted.

Tuning vortec to run on as little sensors as possible

You can program to never come out pf open loop then tune the af mixture and timing to your preference. It’s a little bit like speed-density and more like a carburetor. I’ve done it trying to tune for the drag strip. It can make for more consistent e.t.’s if done right. Just look for closed loop...

Tight budget performance mods. What do you think?

The cats are new stock from Walker and the rest is original. When I can afford it I’m thinking about a Flowmaster 2-in 2-out quiet muffler and duals. The planned exhaust could be better but I want quiet and something easy to return to stock.

Tight budget performance mods. What do you think?

I forgot to say that I have shorty headers, stainless. Not as good as long tubes but better than stock. Good thoughts about exhaust. I can tune the ecm since I have HPTuners and have used it a few times. Thanks.

Tight budget performance mods. What do you think?

Thank you for the excellent advice. My heads are already done by a good friend that does circle track heads. He did all the checking and put in new guides, valves, studs, springs and guide plates. The heads were proven from another engine I ran before. I don’t have money for parts to do the...
