The Official Vortec 454 Info thread

Just got off the phone with BB who told me that they don't use HP Tuners, but see that Justin over there has done tunes in the past via HP Tuners. I think I'm throwing in the towel on figuring out how to tune and just want to pay someone, but would rather not invest in another interface if...

    Rough running 7.4 Vortec

Look at your distributor harness and coil harness/wire to distributor. Starting to sound like a loose connector or maybe bad wiring.

    Rough running 7.4 Vortec

I would actually start at idle and watch long and short term trims on bank 1 and bank 2 once you get into closed loop. Typically you want to see 0 +/- 10% total trim (long term plus short term). If you are seeing higher total trim your PCM is adding fuel, negative trim is removing fuel, etc etc...

    Rough running 7.4 Vortec

Have you watched any live data while driving to see what your fuel trims are doing? Even if there aren't any codes you might be running lean which could cause a miss. I will say that an AC Delco FPR that I bought new only had 52psi KOEO. I ended up swapping out for the 5.7 variant which has a...

    Damned dreaded P0171 AND P0174

Finally found my vacuum leak. The underside of the resonator where it connects to the intake air tube had a crack that I didn't notice until today. So I decided it was time to seafoam the intake...this is how you're supposed to do it right? Fits perfectly and is how I found the crack to...

    Damned dreaded P0171 AND P0174

Turns out that's the correct fpr, but for the OE 24# multec injectors, not 19# bosch ones. Replaced with the fpr for a 5.7 instead and now pressure is where it needs to be. Still have some vacuum leaks to sort out, but little by little it's running better and better. If I wasn't watching fuel...

    Damned dreaded P0171 AND P0174

Finally got a chance to pull the upper intake. Turns out the fpr I have isn't adjustable. I used AC Delco part 217-3073, which I thought was the right one. I also re checked fuel pressure by jumping the relay pins and this time it peaked at 56psi with my tester before dropping down to 50 after...

    TBI injector harness grommet.

Best bet is likely gonna be a junk yard or ebay. Those connectors come apart fairly easily and I think you can pull each wire through the grommet one at a time once the connector is disassembled. Just make sure to take pictures of what wire goes where.

Need Help with a TBI350 Please!

Sounds like a fuel issue. TBIs are notorious for the FPR diaphragm wearing out or just tearing. Pull the air cleaner assembly off (including the plastic collar if you still have it) and look at your injectors. Have someone available to sit in the driver seat to help out 1. Engine off and cold...

    Damned dreaded P0171 AND P0174

I was able to take it on a test drive post o2 sensor replacement and my lean issue now only looks to be present under any load. Idle looks really good now. I know in the TBI world you don't want to use off brand o2 sensors (the ones with the slots vs little holes all over) or they can cause...

    Damned dreaded P0171 AND P0174

First off, curse whichever engineer placed the o2 sensor on the passenger side tucked up where you can barely get at it with your fingers, much less with a wrench. Finally broke it loose and replaced with GM Parts Direct sensors. It looked like they were due anyway based on all the rust and...

    Damned dreaded P0171 AND P0174

Got it home and ordered a full Mahle intake gasket set and both upstream o2 sensors AC Delco. I also noticed the ground wire on the fuel tank needs some loving, so gonna drop the tank again and get that cleaned up.

    Damned dreaded P0171 AND P0174

O2 sensor aren't off the table, but it is both banks causing an issue. I think I'm going to have to limp it along until I get back home and can start digging into everything. While at the shop for the leaking sending unit seal I noticed the ground had been spliced by a PO and needs to be...
