If you get a 96-2000 with the “vortec” 7.4 it is light years better than the tbi. Tons of low end grunt. I think the late model ones have oval port heads.

That’s a sweet rig. Your best friend cleaning that frame up is going to be a nylon bristle cup wheel, they have them at harbor freight. Don’t throw little needles like the wire wheels do.
Well she ain’t the prettiest right now but she works. Only got to drive around enough to make sure it went through all the gears correctly. Shifts crisp into every gear and converter locks up so I call that a win. I’ll beat on it later to make sure.
Also installed new radiator because failed...
Well finally got around to finishing the trans rebuild this weekend. Broke a bolt and a few other setbacks but it’s together and fingers crossed it actually works. For being my first COMPLETE rebuild there is a steep learning curve but luckily the 4l80e is relatively simple as far as autos go...
Started tearing into the trans today after the rebuild kit finally came in.
Needless to say this one got cooked. All the clutches came out paper thin and brittle, all the steels are scored. As a bonus the reverse servo spring came out in pieces. Like always can’t be simple haha.
