    Need help for conversions

IMO converting one of these trucks to a carb opens up a whole can of worms. You think you have problems now. As already stated the 4L60E needs a PCM (computer) to function plus feedback from other sensors. Yes you can swap in a TH350, or 700R4 but then you will have no speedo and likely none of...

Has anyone thought of custom machining a brake mouting flange?

What swap are you doing and how are you going about it?

Has anyone thought of custom machining a brake mouting flange?

Yes the original bolt holes would have to be filled and then sanded smooth if a guy were to drill the 10" backing plate hole pattern in them. The drilling jig wouldn't be an issue. A thin centering ring like that might be a little tricky to machine. The cost of this would be as much if not more...

Has anyone thought of custom machining a brake mouting flange?

That is what I was offering to fabricate. A backing plate flange for the 11" backing plate that has a 3" center hole for the axle tube on the 8.5" 10 bolt

Has anyone thought of custom machining a brake mouting flange?

The backing plate flange is just welded to the axle tube at the correct location for the brake offset. The bearing is installed into the end of the axle tube that is machined for the bearing.

Has anyone thought of custom machining a brake mouting flange?

No. I was talking about making the backing plate flange that is used with the 11" brakes on the 9.5" 14 bolt that could be welded to the 8.5" 10 bolt housing. I don't know if an 'adapter' could be made that would just be bolted to the existing flange on the 10 bolt. The bolt holes between the...

Has anyone thought of custom machining a brake mouting flange?

I currently fabricate a backing plate flange for the '63 truck 12 bolt. Fabricating a backing plate flange for the 9.5 14 bolt with the 11" brakes would be mainly a dimensional change plus threading the bolt holes. It really would not be difficult for me to fabricate if there is indeed an...

    400sbc

Two main things. One is you will need a bigger throttle body. The throttle body from a 454 may work. I know they do on a 383, but not sure on a 400/406. Secondly you will need a way to data log and tune your PCM.

    Will this cam work?

Running a flat tappet cam in a L31 block is just foolish and asking for trouble

    442 style hood I made

Can I ask what you used to bond the fiberglass to the steel hood?

    Best cam for stock L31?

I would go with the RamJet350/HT383 cam #14097395 cam from GM with 1.6 rockers. It won't lope at idle but will have excellent low to mid range torque.

    Best fuel injection intake?

I would go with either a Edelbrock ProFlo4, ProFlo XT or a Holley StealthRam. Holley used to have a port efi intake with a 4150 flange for the Vortec heads, but they discontinued it.

    Best Vortec Distributors?

This is the distributor I would recommend. https://www.ebay.com/itm/255243042852?hash=item3b6dabc024:g:qdcAAOSwCU1Yse7K Yes it is spendy, but it is made in the USA from actual billet aluminum. Not just machined cast aluminum as the cheapos are.

1988 5.7 hardly drives after CL122494 comp cams install

This statement is concerning. I have always set my timing gears dot to dot, never both at 12 O'clock.
