IMO converting one of these trucks to a carb opens up a whole can of worms. You think you have problems now. As already stated the 4L60E needs a PCM (computer) to function plus feedback from other sensors. Yes you can swap in a TH350, or 700R4 but then you will have no speedo and likely none of...
Yes the original bolt holes would have to be filled and then sanded smooth if a guy were to drill the 10" backing plate hole pattern in them. The drilling jig wouldn't be an issue. A thin centering ring like that might be a little tricky to machine. The cost of this would be as much if not more...
That is what I was offering to fabricate. A backing plate flange for the 11" backing plate that has a 3" center hole for the axle tube on the 8.5" 10 bolt
The backing plate flange is just welded to the axle tube at the correct location for the brake offset. The bearing is installed into the end of the axle tube that is machined for the bearing.
No. I was talking about making the backing plate flange that is used with the 11" brakes on the 9.5" 14 bolt that could be welded to the 8.5" 10 bolt housing. I don't know if an 'adapter' could be made that would just be bolted to the existing flange on the 10 bolt. The bolt holes between the...
I currently fabricate a backing plate flange for the '63 truck 12 bolt. Fabricating a backing plate flange for the 9.5 14 bolt with the 11" brakes would be mainly a dimensional change plus threading the bolt holes. It really would not be difficult for me to fabricate if there is indeed an...
Two main things. One is you will need a bigger throttle body. The throttle body from a 454 may work. I know they do on a 383, but not sure on a 400/406. Secondly you will need a way to data log and tune your PCM.
I would go with either a Edelbrock ProFlo4, ProFlo XT or a Holley StealthRam. Holley used to have a port efi intake with a 4150 flange for the Vortec heads, but they discontinued it.
This is the distributor I would recommend.

Yes it is spendy, but it is made in the USA from actual billet aluminum. Not just machined cast aluminum as the cheapos are.
