When/why did buffing a car become "paint correction"?
Get yourself a nice lab coat, fancy rubber gloves, an industrial looking form of eye protection, I might suggest the full face shield for effect, maybe even have led lights on there, RGB at that, then call it Paint Correction, making you a Correctoriologist, and now you can charge Lawyer type...- BuildStuff

Bull Ring makes a decent anchor as well. The cheaper brands seem to use inferior hardware, I would just give the one from AutoZone a good looking over. I realize it now. I wonder if they made their money back on those. You know, that would be a nice setup if one could get rid of the top plate altogether and mount it flush with the bed, that would be cool. Have to think about that for a bit.- BuildStuff

I put a rubber gasket of sorts between the anchor and the bed for protection of the truck finish, is now only semi-flush, but I can live with it. Nice looking truck. That one ground for those features, without some sort of module/controller for the leds, might be an issue, since the leds always have a ground. That is a pickle.- BuildStuff

I looked at the diagram for the blinkers, which in your project the led lights share the blinkers ground. If I assume the diagram to be right, it looks as though the blinkers switches the power and the ground is fixed. In the courtesy light system the ground is switched, meaning it isn't fixed...- BuildStuff

Had this overly long reply, lol. I'll look a little more into it if you don't figure it out, I like a good electrical problem. I have a 95, so I don't have a module. The module.does something to provide a ground at a specific time I think, this may be why the lights come on when you close the door.- BuildStuff

Did you use that white wire as the ground with the orange as power? There will be 12 volts on that white wire, but it appears to be the ground wire for that circuit, as when any of the jamb switches close, or the courtesy lamp switch on the headlight switch close , that white becomes a ground...- BuildStuff

Is this diagram useful? It says 'typical' 1996 and later courtesy lamp system. It would appear you may be looking for that orange wire coming from the interior lamp control module. Well, I got the holes drilled, albeit in the wrong spot, but drilled none the less. All is not lost, as a simple plate on the outside bottom will correct my issue. Would one of those wires come from that little momentary switch mounted to the dashboard by the door panel? That is the switch that pops up when you open the door, it looks like a small plastic rod. The issue with the 2 holes in the bottom of the stake pocket is the bottom is 6 inches down, And I don't have a 7 inch long 3/8" metal bit, and the holes are likely to fall on what looks like a flange, well half on and half off.
