Help - Distributor install questions (devil is in the details)

If I can't get the oil pump shaft to align up. I drop the distributor in as far as it goes (proper alignment with #1) and instead of trying to fish something and turn the shaft, I bump the engine over. Dizzy drops down onto the shaft and my timing is still in time due to the camshaft and dizzy...

    High mileage motor thicker oil?

I have been using the cheapest 10w30 and 10w40 I can find for the past 300k miles. Engine has 540k. Desperately needs to be pulled and rebuilt. But I'm running about 20 psi at warm idle and about 40-45 psi at freeway speeds. My factory guage reads higher, so I go off my aftermarket guage

    Oil pump replacement

Sucks you found piston skirts in the motor. Any other damage you see? Also no need to curse. I understand the other guy made ya mad, but the forums we stay civilized. Facebook is where you put on the UFC gloves.

Nv3500 will work just fine with the v6. All over the parts yards down here. But I heard rebuilding them is a nightmare

    NV4500 PLEASE use right fluid

It shouldn't have went out in less than 300 miles. That's sorry work they did. Plain and simple. Still gonna get the 94 trans rebuilt. Thinking putting it something like a early 50s chevy or a rat rod. I already have a stock rebuilt 305 out of a 92 c1500. Think that combo would work in a early...

    NV4500 PLEASE use right fluid

I know it IS available, just super hard to get ahold of. The GM fluid is the correct fluid but we have a truck at work, been running Amsoil pulling a 33ft goose neck everyday. It's been running Amsoil for 5 or 6 years. Not a single issue.

    NV4500 PLEASE use right fluid

    1. Yes. Behind both the GM 6.5 and the Dodge Cummins. 96+ the GM nv4500 bellhousing to trans bolt pattern different. And the 95+ lost the super low 1st gear. 2. Amsoil claims they have oil specifically designed for the NV4500. Standard Transmission and Gear in Fort Worth Texas says that's what...

    Will 98 NV4500 fit a 94?

For anyone who's following. Looks like so far, I need the 98 trans, the 98 bellhousing, and the clutch hydraulic line. Looks like GM used a standard style of fitting on the master cylinder and the slave cylinder. So it should drop right in. No more external slave but will have a internal...

    NV4500 PLEASE use right fluid

Called them during my lunch break. Told them how I felt (kinda passive aggressive) and told them straight up that I was gonna sue them. They agreed to PayPal (friends and family) me the full amount that I paid plus the money for the Amsoil. Getting a recently rebuilt nv4500 from a 98 to go...

    Will 98 NV4500 fit a 94?

Didn't know......GM kept their bellhousing bolt pattern the same across the board for the engine to bellhousing pattern. So I'm gonna grab the 6.5 bell housing and all the clutch stuff. It should work.

    Will 98 NV4500 fit a 94?

Did confirm the 98 is a different bolt pattern on the bellhousing But. I can grab a 98 5.7 bell housing, convert everything over to hydraulic slave bearing instead of the arm and we should be golden. Gonna cost me about $400 but I should be able to get the truck back onto the road quick...
