So myself and a buddy put a new GM L31 crate engine and a rebuilt transmission into my 98 Silverado. The motor has good power and transmission functions well. Timing is set properly and is reading - .02 between 1000-1200 rpm. However, at highway speeds the truck seems to kind of quickly buck or...

I'm not sure about whether the tumbler is original I think I'll stop by the dealer and chat with them. Thanks for the info guys.

Ok, pretty sure 98 was the 1st year of the passlock?? But not even sure if that matters since I don't know anything about it.

What is the best/easiest way to get a replacement key for a 98 Silverado? Am I correct in assuming I can't just have a key made at the hardware store because of PASSLOCK?

I just installed a new GM L31 crate and had a 4l60e built to go behind it. Everything went smoothly and the truck runs great, the Chevy Performance Ramjet 350/H383 cam that I installed is a nice upgrade to the stock L31. I am however having a small problem with the 4l60e, I cannot select 1st...

Intake manifold pitting

I thought about doing the jb weld treatment but because of the extent of the pitting it would be very difficult to get it right. I paid 100 for it so it's not the end of the world, I guess I'll just hope that the intake that's in the truck now is in much better condition.

Intake manifold pitting

Is this gonna be a problem? I bought these off Ebay today help streamline my engine/trans swap project. It has been "cleaned and painted as a part the inspection process only". The pitting and corrosion around the coolant ports have me a bit concerned. I will be using Fel-pro MS-9800 gaskets...

Not sure if this is provided by Chevy or Jegs but it came with the packet on the crate motor.

I think I'll run Pennzoil 5w-30 conventional for the first couple oil changes (500 miles or so) because that is what Chevrolet recommends.

I just received my new GM L31 (2 bolt) and I'm wondering what the experts (you guys) would run for fluids. Surprisingly the paperwork was not specific. I'm mostly interested in oil, coolant and ATF. Thanks
