    When your spinning the ring gear hold on to the yoke to provide resistance run it back and forth resistance both ways through the painted area....fwiw all cases are probably a little different but my 89 2wd had a .037 factory shim and it worked fine with my new 4:11 ring n pinion ....

    Night 2 lol ....have had it in and out probably 4-6 times so far ....I'm at .012 backlash currently so sneaking up on specd .008-.009... tomorrow I should have it dialed in....everyone has said your going to have to put it in and out several times which I'm finding to be true lol....

    I have never done a gear change before ...so here's a few pics O tonight's work ... I was able to get the ring gear on heating it with a torch and pounding it with a rubber mallet . I got the new pinion bearing on the new pinion by heating it in a pan of oil on the stove to ~350 then I was able...

    Best $35 I ever spent for this crossbolt - broken bolt extractor kit ....drilled for 2.5 minutes total time ,stopping every 30 secs to put in some lube....I put in the spiral extractor and it came out first try .....I think the key is the 2 plastic threaded guides that come in the kit and keep...

So I bought an extractor kit several people...

    They had a few factory bandaids trying to fix this common issue....one was an oil filter that kept pressurized after shutoff lol it didn't work....the other was a prom reflash that pulled initial timing at idle reducing the knock. I can tell you from personal experience I did a carb conversion...
