Now I'm curious what the voltage rules are on HIDs. I just got to digging and found a full low beam HID setup with relay for my dually. HID lows suck without a 4hi mod as they have to warm back up when you drop back to lows. That said, I've had HID lows with 4hi on my 1500 since 2010 and they're still going *knocks on wood*.

Successful does not necessarily equal correct and/or legal. I'm 99% sure that Bill's referring to the fact that you shouldn't put HIDs in housings designed for halogens if you care about legality or other drivers on the road.

EDIT - Yup, @sewlow beat me to the link.

Since the body shop aimed my lights in 2012 I have been flashed ZERO times, so I'm going to have to disagree with the whole notion that HIDs can only be run in projector housings. I had them in the wife's Grand Prix and was also flashed ZERO times. I've driven head on into my own beams and they're no worse than a new car with stock HIDs.

That's not exactly a scientific argument for your point. There's a ton of information in that thread to support the opposite.

What needs to be scientific? The only problem with not using projectors is that you risk blinding oncoming traffic. If you're not blinding oncoming then why bother with projectors?

My point was that you are, wether you believe you are or not. Even if not many people consider them "blinding," you're still putting light where it's not supposed to be. It's a matter of filament position and reflector design.

At the end of the day, why does it matter if light goes where it's not supposed to go? Seems to me not blinding oncoming traffic is it. If in 6 years I haven't been flashed then they can't be that bad. Not super objective criteria, but good enough for me. I flash people when they're too bright, I expect the same from them.
