Hey guys, like the title says. I have much more smoke out of my 88 350 tbi. Replaced all the seals last weekend and thought it was fine. Now it smokes like I'm having a bbq! I'm thinking maybe the intake ones came loose off the guide and are riding on the valve? Won't be able to get back in it till tomorrow due to work. part numbers I used are ss72527 and ss72525. Called fel pro to double check correct parts

Did ya check to see if the valve guides were worn while you were in there? Either way sounds like you'll be pulling rocker covers for a look see.

That i didn't do. But before i did the job, it'll puff a big cloud on startup and that was pretty much it. Now it's constant

Oh no. My '93 K1500 also smokes on startup, and I'm getting ready to replace the seals using ss72527 (intake) and ss72877 (exhaust). According to Felpro website you installed the correct seals for your K2500. Sorry I haven't got a clue, but I'm really interested in the outcome, what caused this to happen.

Wallored out valve guides could quickly disintegrate new valve seals. take off the rocker covers and see what happened.

I took off covers and removed rocker arms. Nothing is out of place. Checked valve guide clearance by trying to wiggle valves. Just very slight movement. Put it back together and same thing. Idk now :biggun:

Something has to be fuckered up... it was kinda bad then you fixed it and it got worse. So something is probably outta place. Did you get all the pieces on?

The only thing that is odd to me is the exhaust umbrellas just basically sit on the guide. The diameter of the valve is smaller than the diameter of the seal. So it doesn't even touch it. I asked the fel pro rep and he said that's normal. I don't think oil is getting through there cause its constantly under pressure. There was actually nothing on the exhaust side when i first opened it up.

So, the intake valves are a positive type seal, and they must stay firmly affixed to the valve guide boss. Exhaust seals in this application are umbrella type and must stay affixed to the valve to work properly. Umbrella seals function by using a tin hat that seals to the retainer and the retainer to the o ring on the valve stem. Then they put a little rubber umbrella on the stem to control oil that passes the tin hat. First two pics are for Exhaust side and the third pic is intake for comparison. The pics are from a set of tbi heads i had laying around.

Just a heads up valve guide wear is measured at the valve head at max lift and is measured in thousandths of an inch then divided in half. So just a wiggle is likely to much.
