So, has anyone here ever added an auxiliary power lock switch at the barn doors on a truck that did not have one? Or have I missed the thread?
I want to add a door-lock switch on the D pillar on my 1995 K2500 Sub. It has power door locks, but it does not have the harness pigtail for the switch that later models seem to have. Can I just tap into the "lock" and "unlock" wires at the D pillar and provide a positive (+) source? Or does the '95 use the (+) lock and (+) unlock, with a "trigger" wire?
If anyone has done this, or knows of information outlining the process that would be nice.
Thanks!

I was going to be really lazy and wire the lock/unlock switch to a hacked remote fob mounted inside the trim piece.

One problem with the switch and barn doors is that with the back door open, the connection for the power door lock is disconnected electric lock is disconnected.

What I really want to add back there is an interior handle and lock. That way you could hit the lock button for all the doors then manually lock the barn door from the inside. Also, I want it for the (rare) times I camp in it.

I think a handle from the back door of an express or savanah would look pretty at home there, I was also thinking a fiero interior handle might be good because it's pretty flush and that might make it less prone to damage. I think parts from a front passenger door might need to be used.

I've gathered some parts, but haven't attempted anything yet.

I was thinking about adding a switch as well but I wasn't really thinking about locking/unlocking the barn doors themselves. When I take the kids places they always have to stand and wait while I unlock the rear and load stuff up before I can let them in. If I could just open the rear and hit a switch to unlock the rest of the doors it would be mighty convenient. I was going to just cut in to the wires at one one of the passenger doors and run a momentary switch to the back. Being able to lock all the doors as well would be nice but like you say, there's no power to the door when it's open. Considering all the nice features on my truck this seems like an oversight on GM's part. A door handle would sure be cool, now that you mention it. I would like to see how such a project turns out.

My 97 c1500 Sub has a rear liftgate not barn doors and came with the auxiliary lock/unlock switch factory. Also factory keyless entry with trunk button just to open the cargo area separately. The truck has Lt trim. One might be able to look at wiring diagrams for this application and see what an d how to make it work in your SUV. My wife and I loved this feature weather it was for easier loading or unloading or simply just safety with the kids. When e engine let go we bought a 2004 k2500 sub to replace it and it does not have that feature. You don't realize how much we used it until it wasn't available. I'm currently gathering harnesses and other parts from similar vehicles and going to graft the harnesses to make work in new truck.

Dr.Zoom, the barn door lock a few seconds after the doors are closed. If the doors are open and you hit any of the lock switches, being either the fob or doors, then shut the barn doors whenever you are finished the rear lock will activate after the door is closed. I noticed it a while ago when I was making plans for my universal key fob.

I know why mine doesn't do that. It's not factory keyless entry. I only had power door locks and added an aftermarket keyless entry unit.

I like their solution.

Not really. I've picked up some parts, handles and rods, but I haven't done anything on it. I did take note of an express van the other day that had a lock/unlock button on the rear barndoor handle and thought about this.
