What is so special about the "Mercury" or "Quicksilver" distributor cap? Currently $87 on Amazon. I think $87 is nuts, I'd resent paying that for a Jaguar V12 cap, never mind one to fit a Chevy.

At least with the United Motor Products unit, you can say it has a vent on the top.
They were once brass terminals with low resistance brass buttons. The last one I bought had the standard aluminum garbage and I returned it.

The only Vortec cap and rotor I will run is MSD as they are the only ones I have had that will last. With the distributor base vacuum vented and resupplied with filtered fresh air from the airbox to continuously eliminate moisture and ozone buildup they last for years.

Which one or got a part number? The few MSD’s I just looked at were Made in China. Red too!

The MSD cap for TBI engines is cheap Chinese crap. Haven't looked at a Vortec package.

…as is their Vortec cap.

And my only point on the Quicksilver was it’s manufactured in Venezuela.

Amazon is not always correct on parts information though, both on whether it is for our trucks or where it is made.
I went ahead and bought a Standard DR 474 Cap and DR 331 rotor at O'Reillys, cap says made in USA and the rotor is a Blue Streak rotor made in Mexico.

NAPA/Echlin has been good to me so far; had an Accel cap and rotor bad right out of the package.
I thought about getting the MSD Streetfire distributor but I have an Accel shaft waiting to go in.
Wasn't there a guy for a company on here some time ago who was manufacturing Vortec distributors?
