I have a 1999 k2500. I am in the process of replacing the 5.7 with a 383 (vortec) with aftermarket heads and cam. I have been able to get most issues solved, but the one I can't is one of the last. I have taller valve studs/roller rockers, so the factor valve covers will not work. I have some taller valve covers and i am trying to maintain all factory components of the truck. The only problem is that the ac compressor and bracket won't clear the cover for install. I was just wondering if any of you have run into this problem. And if so, how you went about fixing it. Thank you in advance.

Are the rockers too tall, or are they too wide and hitting the PCV? I put roller rockers on WCJr's engine, and the PCV in the TBI valve cover was too wide to fit between the rockers. I then discovered that some of the Vortec valve covers have a narrower PCV. It fit perfectly between the rockers.

I may have to look at my pile of valve covers and see if I can get a comparison shot.

The rocker stud and nut is too tall, the valve covers fit, they just have a quarter inch gap at the bottom

Another member posted these short polylocks awhile back, so I bookmarked em for whenever I get around to installing the roller rockers I have sitting on a shelf collecting dust.

According to one of the reviews, they'll clear stock vortec covers.

Are you using the "polylock" rocker nuts? Get shorter ones.

Roller rockers fit under stock valve covers for every engine I've used 'em on, although one or two needed double valve cover gaskets and 1/4" longer bolts. I had to drill the PCV baffles on the Oldsmobile engines, though.

Yes I am. They are what came with the rockers

Another roller rocker user here, I went with Comp Pro Magnums and had to shave the little trusses on my stock valve covers to sneak down between the rockers. Supposedly the Crane narrow body rockers don't need this. I went with the shorter Crower poly locks and got it all to fit underneath with just one gasket. Stock press in studs though.

On the AC bracket I cut down one of the bolt hole mounts from the bottom. Have had no issues since. I believe it was the one closest to the intake. Just took a razor wheel n slowly cut it at a slight angle til it cleared. Someone else on here did this n told me about it. That's how I figured it out.
