Wow. I've not touched anything idle related, though I did recently log idle airflow from a cold start and it's pretty close to desired airflow. Other than that I'm MAF only with the MAF dialed in and get a once in a while crap piss warm start. My dually has not fought me hardly at all. It's too bad you guys don't have EFILive or I could share my starter tune. It was solid out of the box.
Do you recall what you did for an initial timing table?

I took my 350's table and chopped 4* out of it. What kind of gas are you running? The 350 table is so lame stock you could probably run it untouched out the gate.

I run 87 pretty much exclusively. Might play around with 93 down the road but for now that’s the plan.

First go I had put an 8.1 table in there… it’s quite a bit more aggressive than the 350 tables. But if the block box tune is any indication, that 350 table leaves a LOT on the table, so to speak, bad dad joke pun there…

Trying to extrapolate from the black box tune as well, unfortunately it is in kpa instead of airmass. Still a point of reference though, i might try and make an extrapolated version of it using the 350 table as a starting point.

Now I’m half wondering if some of my woes were from using the 8.1 timing table.

Not sure, the only thing I extrapolated from the black box was the VE, that wasn't all that painful. IIRC there were more RPM and maybe load cells, but a simple linear blend did the truck there.

I'm sure if you took screenshots some of those tables could be inferred
Plus if it's anything like HPTuners, you (or we) should be able to run the software and view tunes for free, just can't edit or write anything. Might be good to post up.

OK I think I lied, looks like I ripped off some idle stuff from the 8.1. This timing table may be a little aggressive for you, if so just back the whole thing off a few and go from there. IIRC though I ended up dumping a bunch into it from here. Note you'll still want to tune MAF and VE, but I seem to recall low single digit LTFTs and good drivability right off the bat (I didn't touch VE or MAF for over 4 years, not that I should have waited so long. . .). LMK if this helps.

Awesome thanks for posting that up. I’ll load it up and take a look how it compares with what I have.

I spent a bunch of time last night looking hard at the black box timing table, vs the 8.1 vs the Express 5.7 timing tables. I think the 5.7 is a good a place to start as any, maybe pull a few degrees out of some of the peaks and go from there. Definitely want to compare with what you have as well… my intent is to do a bunch of good logging first though and definitely get MAF and VE dialed in with the Wideband first, just need a starting point on timing.

Peak torque of the 350 comes in at 3200, pretty close to where the 454 peaks at. If you want to start with the 350 table run it as is and log for knock. If you find any, it won't be much.
