A thought.
what parts should I look for to add cruise control to this thing?
95-99 multifunction switch Seems logical assuming non tilt amd tilt are the same switch… but am I looking for a 90-94 firewall actuator to match tbi?
driving 30-60 minutes at freeway speeds through and around town, I can tell that I actually do need to start looking for the parts so I can keep a relatively constant speed. I’m usually pretty good with most cars amd trucks but with this thing I start creeping up or down over a few minutes by as much as 5-6 mph

Put a new battery in it, had the negative terminal fail, so put a new aftermarket one on it so I can later make a bigger ground to body cable.
decided to swap out the little junkyard 75 (seriously, it had pick a part sticker and green gel writing on it) with 500cca for the correct and larger 78 with 850 or 1000cca, forget which.

codes came back, same 36 amd 54. Someone had pulled the fuel pump fuse and put a wire with spade in it to drive a relay. A relay that now does nothing, so I put the fuse back. now To see if it does come back in the next few days… fingers crossed that takes care of 54.

tried jumping AB amd turning key on, amd I’m not hearing the tap tap tap of the iac moving to home position, so I guess In two weeks I will see about changing that out. It runs much better with more power when no CEL so I do want to get that corrected.
If anyone has a suggestion on the correct PN for a 95 454 tbi I’d be very appreciative. with all the results when I try to find it online its become clear as mud.

also ordered 4 more cans of SEM and black carpet so I can strip the interior completely pull out any remaining superflius wiring, lay in the wiring correctly for my mirror, powered front buckets, console etc. spray all the interior plastic to the new color, and only have to do this just one time.

So iac does seem to be working, with it unplugged the idle is about 1500. I assume then that my base idle is way too high and I need to manually reduce it

54 is confirmed solved! When codes came back today, it was only 36… no 54 Anymore so indeed, it was the missing fuel pump fuse!

36 is looking promising. I followed the procedure to set IAC to home and unplugged then drilled out the insert that covers the screw so I could adjust base idle Lower, it now is about 700-750 in R/D about 900 in park.
drives better too, no issue keeping up with traffic now, shifts seem more eager.it feel like it picked up a Half bushel of torque, something it didn’t seem to have with the double OD engaged in 1-4 and midthrottle is punchier too. So far it looks good and I’m happy with the change.

I pulled some more wiring out of it today, (yes, I’m still finding random wires all over), and decided to try putting in the rgb 194s I got from my son In the glovebox light and the ashtray.

I found the ashtray light tucked away in the harness and not in place , so if anyone knows exactly how it goes I’d appreciate a heads up, as where it seemed to clip in underneath sort of interferes or catches the tray itself. Was it supposed to be mounted above the opening and shine thru that little slot stock?

But it sure does look good where it is now.

Yes. I didn't see it there until I was swapping dashes last year.
Much appreciated. When I pull the dash to paint it I’ll open that slot up more and put the socket where it should go.

As you’ve probably surmised used my DreMel to cut the rounded end off keeping only the retainer ring back be able to fit the longer LED assembly in

36 came back. Ugh. I still feel like it has to be something with the iAC Though, not detecting any leak below the tbi gasket when aerosol sprayed around it.
I suppose it could be MAF, I’ve seen websites refer to both IAC and MAF as causes.

but I did finally find my edge lit fiber optic cable so I could finish the cupholders.it’s a basic slit around part of the circumference in the back with the fiber optic then inserted and glued in place.

took a bit to shape the fiber to fit the curves of the cup holder with a heat gun before install, but the results are decent imo.

Enjoy.

thought, where is the vacuum operated idle kicker supposed to go to? Right now it literally loops over to a port on the TBI So as soon as it starts it retracts fully.

is that what is actually supposed to be going to a solenoid?

I found a picture here in an old old post… it’s looking from cab to front, instead of other way.

mine is NOT like this, it goes directly from the kicker to the TBI port.

on Thursday when I’m off again I will see if that solenoid is still there or was removed. but that would certainly explain the code 36!
