The way availability for short blocks is. I'm thinking about taking my block to a machine shop and have them inspect, magnaflux, and hone it. Then assemble it with this kit or, depending on bore, one like it.

have you seen these guys?
No personel experience, was a member or 2 on here that used them IIRC.
I don't remember looking at them, thanks. It looks like all they sell are long blocks but, I sent a message asking for a short block - we'll see.

RUN from ATK. I worked for a large nationwide used car dealer (now defunct) and two thirds of the ATK engines they installed didn't make it 10k. Some died on the customers first ride home.

There is a guy in Scottsdale that does great work. I'll get the number from my buddy. It's a drive for you but I toured the shop a few months ago when I had him do some head work for my Blazers 5.3. Old school guy, cleanest machine shop I ever saw and no shortage of work.

Most any decent machine shop is booked out forever, they're a (sadly) dying breed.
Yeah, I just called a shop sort of near by, they told me they're 6 Months out :(

One in Scottsdale is too busy to answer their phone. I'll try again later.

I may just strip the engine, check it out, take it to the car wash (I've done it before in the 70's), and if it doesn't need boring, I'll get a dingle ball hone, buy the rotating assy kit, and send it ;)

I would seriously be looking at a LS transplant at this point. Now is the time to do it and let those big cathedral head ports work for you.
I put a LS in a vehicle, drove it for a while, then pulled that gutless dog of a 6.0L back out and put a cammed 350 Vortec in its place. That 6.0L did not start making power until ~4K.
