My buddy just recommended the same thing, the fluid in my trans is dark but doesn't smell burnt. But I fear the dark color tells me everything I need to know.
What shift kit do you have in your K1500? Isn't it a modified TransGo kit?

With the 4L60 it was. Now it's a Superior kit with the 4L80.

I was looking at a Sonnax Sure-Cure kit, since I can get it at a discount from a buddy; looked it up online and it's description is a "refurbish kit"
Sure-Cure 4L80E
I'll probably get either a Mag-Hytec or an TCI deep pan and a larger cooler too, anything else I should consider?

Got the gauge pod mounted and I'll need to rewire my trans temp gauge. I don't know where the wideband I snagged off of marketplace has gotten to, but progress is being made.

I also talked to Howard Cams about a grind for this truck, and they recommended a cam that's got .510/.527, Duration @ .050: 209 / 213, Centerline: 108, I asked about a cam that would be a good towing cam that wouldn't rape me on gas mileage and work well with the stock converter, anyone got any other ideas?

I'm not a cam guru by any means but 209/213 on a 108 seems counter productive. I don't think that I'd be happy going through the work of a cam swap that my wife's grandma would be happy with. She's never driven anything without reins and a bit.

I can't find my notes, but thought I had Comp 200/206 on my short list, even thought I had found a vid on youtube of one idling, with just a hint of BBC chop, just the right amount on a tow rig... I'll see I can dig around and find the video tonight... supposedly a good cam with nice manners and more LOW END TORQUE!

That's why I'm wanting something different, I'm eyeing a Comp XR270 but I'd prefer to have a fresh motor to throw that particular cam in.

Just watch your temps and go from there.

As for cams, stock is something like a 208/208 .480"/.480" on a 116 LSA and it's retarded a couple degrees. A 108 will help a lot with making more torque, but the duration is pretty much stock.

That was one of them. i went on a 454 exhaust/cam bender on youtube a while back, but didn't save my links.. I think there's another one somewhere as well...

EDIT: yeah this is it
xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

that's a comp 218/224 which is probably a little much cam, but the Comp 212/218 they list as great for towing:

I used that one, real happy with the results. Can’t recommend the Comp lifters though.

I actually talked to the guy, he's running stock springs and rockers, he didn't do any valve-train mods to run that cam. I think my comment is either #1 or #2 under that video,

I'm mulling GMPP lifters, I'll probably check all of mine over though, the price on the GM ones kind of make my stomach hurt

Again; cheap and cam swap don't go in the same sentence. Like ever.
