i grind a flat spot on the convex shaped tamper plug with a small dermal, then drill with a #7 drill bit, then tap it with a 1/4-20 tap. as you tap it the tap will bottom against the idle screw and push the tamper plug out
Why would you do that? Do they actually call it a tamper plug? Erik said not to mess with it and schurkey would agree. They said I need a scan tool. Ive pretty much tampered this truck to death might as well get this tamper plug out and see what happens, thanks for the Info I appreciate it.

I got a snapon mt2500 from ebay about 2 weeks ago. I like it
How much did it cost? And what does it tell you? I have replaced literally half of this truck in new parts. Still not right.

I used an MTG2500 for about twenty years. It was getting flaky, didn't want to boot when cold. But I'd probably still be using it if I hadn't spilled gasoline on the poor thing, and solvent-welded the software cartridges in place.

The MTG is newer/better than the MT, it has rudimentary two-channel Graphing capability. Graphing sensor outputs can be very helpful.

I replaced my MTG2500 with a Solus Pro, software good to 2007 (Version 8.2.) Bought very used from eBay with various vehicle adapters, rechargeable battery and charging station, "Personality Keys", owner's manual on DVDs, and a suitcase to carry it around in. $350 shipped to my door.

The Solus Pro is two generations newer than the MTG; much more powerful in terms of graphing sensor outputs, and retaining memory of previous vehicles. It's still so old that Snap-On has essentially abandoned that platform--NO updates, NO service/repair, NO repair parts. All you can buy for it are the pieces that also fit the newer scan tools.

There are competing brands of scan tools, which I have ZERO experience with. There are software-plus-dongle (or cable) solutions for use with your laptop computer. I have ZERO experience with them.

Ok if you have scan tool you like could you please recommend one.
I don't have any pre-OBDII scan tools. WCJr has aftermarket EFI and Roscoe currently has a hollow engine bay. For a generic OBDII scanner I recommend a BAFX bluetooth - $25 and it connects to just about everything.

Can you recommend a scan tool that you like?
Search “scan tool” in this forum and you’ll find threads where people asked the same question and the various suggestions. You can get a broader set of opinions and options in a search than in this single thread.

Truck is gone. It's with a real mechanic not forum mechanics. I appreciate all your help.
