Wednesday we take the trailer, it's only about 10 miles, so will be a good shake down, but I anticipate no issues. The big trip is towards the end of August, the more I think about it, the more I think I'll wait until after that to do the 0411 swap, I don't want to be tuning and working out kinks on a 5 hour drive. The truck has proven fully reliable so far, I feel pretty good just taking it, especially now I can watch trans temps. Still would like a mech gauge and BIG cooler but it's going to have to wait. At least I can monitor temps and slow down if there's an issue.

I think they are on the proper side but the long part sticking out goes into the door. So just turn them around.
Not a great pic but you might be able to figure it out. If not i can get a better pic for ya

pic makes sense, for the life of me i could not figure out how to make it work mounted that way. but what you show makes sense. next time i'm in there i'll see if I can make that work. the good news is this piece is easy to access.

Been commuting it while my daily is tore apart to replace the A/C evaporator in the dash... almost done there. But gave me a good chance to have some "one on one" time with it to just make sure everything is good, before I take it on a 500 mile round trip camping trip hauling a 4k trailer.

I noticed today a grinding noise from the engine... I had originally attributed it to the power steering pump, during my cruising around... truck came with a bottle of PS fluid under the hood so I assumed a slow leak, and the noise sounded like a low PS pump.

But when I got to work this morning I noticed the noise was maybe more pronounced. I topped off the PS fluid but that wasn't it. Paying more attention, it sounds more like it's coming from the top of the engine. Definitely not a valve train noise.... maybe distributor? It's the only thing I can think of, especially as it sounds like its coming from the back of the engine. I'll put my ear on it again tonight when I get home, but definitely thinking the distributor needs replacing.

I want to take this thing camping... but I don't think I should on the distributor in there. The UMP one on Rock Auto for like $100 seems like a good option, from other posters here...what do you guys think? Down the road I'm likely to end up coil packs with the x24 setup after my 0411 swap so it doesn't need to last forever, anyone have experience with this to talk me into or out of ordering one? Like I said I'll confirm tonight where the noise is coming from but pretty sure that's it. That or the alternator. But might also explain the light miss I've been noticing at idle I had been writing off to the injectors...

In other news these mirrors seem pretty good. There is some slight wobble at highway but it is very minor and doesn't "take away" from being able to see behind me. The visibility is great, I especially like the lower wide angle piece. The other "issue" is the half of the directions being slow to adjust. It's not really a problem just an item of note. Hopefully not indicative of a potentially failing motor down the road- I don't think so since it is both mirrors and consistent, but an item of note if you are thinking about these mirrors. Likely a different pair might have different quirks. I still need to wire in all the "features" so I can't speak to how well that works yet.

My mirrors were also a little wobbly. I tightened them a little tighter and now they are rock solid at highway speeds.

Just went ahead and pulled the trigger on the UMP dizzy. Just seemed the right thing to do. Looks like a minor PITA to do the install without pulling the intake, but can be done. Probably a good idea to get that done before the big trip.

I'm sure I'll end up with coil packs eventually but I think you still to leave *something* in the distributor hole, probably won't be a wasted purchase even if/when that happens. Plus it's only $108. Supposedly "billet"....
