I believe you can get a pocket that fits in the hole as some models didn't have the equalizer or tape deck. Mine had a pocket, but it was lost when I did the stereo install about 15 years ago, so I will have to find another. $400 plus still seems like a bit of cost for that retro stereo for what you get.

I am looking at this series of radio for my 91. I also have the cassette/equalizer and am wondering where to get the pocket to replace them. I didn't find any listed at Crutchfields. Who else might offer those? I would hate to have to search the bone yards for a decent one. We only have one local yard and I've already been all over it.

I am not sure where you would find one. I know I ordered a wiring adapter for my 93 and they gave me everything to replace the original radio , factory to new radio adapter, antenna adapter, pocket to put where the radio was, and the center piece for installing the radio in the center where the EQ or cassette was. Looks like I might have to visit our local Pick N Pull to see if they have one. Will post back with results.

There are a bunch of options to junk the stock stereo and install something else. Make sure you order the correct color, unless you plan on repainting. I got lucky and found the pocket and dash piece in a junkyard truck.

A no-brand kit that has a single-DIN dash piece, a pocket to replace the dash controls, an adapter harness, and the GM antenna adapter:

The Metra pocket to replace the dash controls:

The Metra double-DIN dash piece:

The Scosche single-DIN dash piece:
www.amazon.com/Scosche-GM1482GRB-Installation-1988-1994-Chevrolet/dp/B0007KK2AG/

The Metra single-DIN dash piece (in blue):

The GM antenna adapter by itself:

I found one on Ebay for about $50 with shipping.

I finally ordered that Santa Cruz M1 radio. I'll wait until the temps cool back down before I start the install though. I have other more pressing work to do right now and I am picking the early hours of each day to do them before it hits the 100* mark since I am working outdoors.
