How about replacing the shaft, and ADJUSTING the two items on the steering gear?

Wild Guess: Correctly adjusting an OEM steering box gets you better results than a production-line "rebuilt" box; costs nothing but your time and enough PS fluid to flush the old stuff out.
The steering box has a leak, so I figured on just replacing it. Had to read this thread a couple of times then bounce back and forth to see what parts Caman96 was referring to. I was thinking about rebuilding the front end anyways (got nothing else to do) I like the direction he went and I already have ordered some of the parts as I followed along. Video was great help. Replacing the entire shaft? I'll look into it.

Just a heads up, RockAuto still has NOS USA manufactured Timken SP550300 and SP550301(left and right) front wheel hub assemblies. About $41.00 each/Closeout Sale! When these are gone, you’ll be hard pressed to find NOS USA wheel hubs. You’ll spend almost 3x that on cheap China junk.
Edit: Actually, with RockAuto 5% off, they’re only $38.95 apiece!

I assume the part #SP580300 and #SP580301 for the 8 lug 2500 are the cheap china made ones for 3x the price? Any suggestions on where to find the USA made timkens for the 8 lug? TIA

Also, is your truck at stock ride height? If you did a thread on your suspension upgrade from last summer, will you link it for me?

I'm going to use most of the same parts you used for my front end upgrade but am still iffy on spending so much on the idler arm bracket. What is so special about it?

What's the difference between the 1500 and the 2500 shafts?

There's a C3500HD shaft with a U-joint instead of a rag joint, but only works on '88--94 trucks. The 95--newer have geometry issues.
Is that a drop-in option? Looking at replacing two 88-94’s soon and there’s so much contradicting information on the sticky here I’m second guessing everything

That "sticky" needs to be pruned; it's overgrown with bad advice and useless posts.

The GM 3500 shaft and (longer) bolt fit like they were made to go there.

There's conflicting info on whether it's discontinued or not. Mine came from the AC-Delco dealer...who got it from the stock of the parts department of a nearby GM dealership.

26015779 shaft not discontinued, just on small backorder, and the 11610555 bolt there is plenty of inventory on.
