Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking about increasing the performance on my vortec 5.7. I currently have the upgraded injectors and a black bear tune. I'm trying to figure out what the best option is for my rig. Does anyone have experience with comparing the marine intake vs the Vmax Spacer/upgraded spider? Is the performance pretty comparable? The other intake I'm looking at is the Edelbrock Pro Flo XT. I have a wild card of possibly buying back my vortec TPI system I sold that was installed on my 1972 k10... but its a long shot. TPI is also a serious pain when it comes to servicing the injectors if there is a problem... My trucks purpose in life is to tow and haul stuff. Its not a race truck. Its my daily driver.

The 5.7 makes killer power especially for towing. The limiting factor seems to be the intake for the trucks. I base this statement off the fact that ski/wakeboard boats use the the vortec 5.7 and they pull like crazy, and the intake design is better than my current stock system. The marine intake is so similar in design from the stock setup, would it make a "Holy ****!!" difference? I know I can go with a 6.0, but when with all EFI engine conversions, they really Nickle and dime you. I'm going to replace the engine soon-ish with a new long block, so it would be fun to make it perform better.

What experience does anyone have with these different intake options?

Forget the intake, be more concerned about the crankshaft, pistons, and maybe cam. (i.e., 383)

I am roughly 500 hp out of a 383 with a ported stock intake. I have run the marine, went back to the truck intake for emissions reasons. I cannot use a V-Max without a body lift.

I'm curious why you didn't just drill the marine intake for an EGR?

OP both marine intake and v max spacer are unobtanium last I checked, save for the 4 bolt TB intakes. Proflo will be much easier to source, but I wouldn't touch that TPI intake. No low end, no top end, no thanks.

I thought it was possible to run EGR with some sort of remote setup from another GM vehicle.... F-body maybe?

It is, I'm wondering if his issue was that of a visual inspection.
All visual and remote EGR would have been very complicated. I have an intake air duct where the one guy mounted his egr valve off the compressor bracket that ran that remote setup on pacific audio. I am alot more space limited than a truck or suv.

It is if you have room for the extra pieces. It was hard enough to find room to mount the 8 coils behind the fuel crossover, above the capped off distributor when I ran 24x.

Marine intake lacks the egr mount and the egr feed hole dumps directly into the plenum. It was used as the IAC opening on my marine intake. Mine had a remote mounted ford style iac on it.

TPI is probably what I'm going to go with. Sounds like the guy that purchased my 1972k10 is interested in selling me back my TPI system. It has the vortec lower intake. It makes tons of torque which is what I want. I'm going to cut the injector spider plug off the wire harness, and make a weatherproof quick disconnect so I can easily have injector wires or put it back to stock. Worst case, if I can't get it running like I want, I can easily swap back the original intake system and flash back my original black bear tune. I just need to modify the fuel rail on the TPI to go out the back.

TPI looks pretty damn cool.

The TPI setup on my 72 was pretty fun. I had a vortec 5.7 and a 4L60e. Only pitfall was using obd1. I went through an ignition module every 6 months which was super annoying.
