I just looked, it seems like almost all of the listings have been removed, which is very odd. Even the Chinese sites that used to stock tons of them like Alibaba and DHGate seem to be no longer listing them.

I did find this one on eBay for $390, which is a little high but it comes with a carrying case. IIRC that's only about $50 more than I paid for mine.

Says no plastic box and only does diagnostic functions but no other functions. I'll pass I guess.
How are these clones updated?

Good catch on the carrying case fine print but these things are pretty much all the same. They're all bi-directional, and they'll all function identically. I wouldn't put any trust in the "diagnostics only" statement in that listing.

Regarding updates, there are none. The Tech 2 was replaced by the MDI/GDS-2 around 2010, so the Tech 2s aren't being updated any more. You can switch the PCMCIA cards out if you want to switch from the standard GM card to Saab/Opel/Isuzu etc, but none of the software has been updated in years and won't be in the future. The latest version of the GM Tech 2 software card supports all GM vehicles from 1991-2013.

OK, got it thanks.
Well, may keep an eye out for one but I think I'll wait to see a lower cost!

Man I bought 4 wireless PS2 controllers that were shipped right before ebay refunded me the money for them because they were exact copies of sonys controllers. I received them and they work great and did not pay a cent for them. ebay takes counterfeit items very seriously.

I'm sure that has something to do with high prices.....

I think you're on to something there. It looks like eBay and Amazon have removed all the super obvious clone Tech 2 listings. Out of curiosity I just looked and the word "clone" isn't anywhere in that listing I linked to.

I just checked DH Gate and Alibaba (Basically Chinese eBay/Amazon equivalents) a little closer. There are some clone Tech 2s available from vendors there but they're not much cheaper than the $390 eBay listing. The cheapest I'm seeing is around $340. IMO not worth the $50 savings, as those sites are notorious for stealing credit card information. I found that out the hard way years ago. If anyone is considering purchasing from those sources I would strongly recommend emailing the vendor directly and seeing if they'll accept an alternative payment method like PayPal, or at the very least use a transfer service like Western Union.
