Finally got around to replacing my drier. The few weeks I had the AC system open after I twisted the tube off the condenser had me worried about how much moisture got into the system. While I was at it, I replaced both schrader valves as well. Added 2.25lbs of R134a, and now it’s nice and cool!

Next time you go to the salvage yard, see if you can find the foam jacket that goes on the drier.... or maybe you can get one on Rockauto?

I didn't know they were a thing for the longest time, but my white dually and the one I junked both had them. And how the hell is this over 100 pages? Oh, I know, you don't go forever between updates like me.

So I’ve toyed with this idea, off and on, successfully talked myself out of it (so I thought) and tried to forget ever having this idea…but nope, I’ve embraced it now.

Im going to convert this thing to a dually. So as of late, I’ve been keeping an eye out for any parts I need to do this conversion. I mentioned my intentions to a buddy of mine who happens to have a 93 C3500 with supposedly a DRW rear in it. He sent me the pics below, and claims that the truck is NOT a cab and chassis frame. From the numbers he took a pic of, I found that this is a Dana 70. I guess those came in the earlier GMT400s? Of course there’s no RPO codes left, so I can’t figure out what the ratio is (I need a 4.10)

Would there be any reason (other than different ratio) that this wouldn’t work on my 2000 C3500 if the spring mounts measure the same? Any pros and cons of the Dana 70?

If you can get me the last 8 I can try and run it at work and give you what rear axle ratio it is.

No, that should bolt right up to your truck. Just remove the leaf spring mounting bolts to the frame and swap it over as an axle along with the leaf springs: don't remove the U bolts.

Yes, the some of early GMT 400 ran the Dana 70. It may have the 4.10s so no ECU calibration will be required. Pop the cover and see if it has a locker. Does your 14b have the G80?

The only con would be replacement parts won't be literally found everywhere as the 14 bolt, but it's not like there are any parts that break often on these axles.

Have you looked into swapping a later generation 14 bolt with discs? I don't think that would be too difficult of swap. Just a thought.
