Surprisingly could not locate all the needed info on front axle actuator that easily. 99+ factory used a switched ground to activate while prior thermal used a switched 12v. Not until dorman tech support shared their upgrade harness instructions did I confirm that the empty pin on 99+ is actually to use switched 12v. GM must have intended it to be easily backwards compatible. Except also the need for a spacer(old socket worked perfect). After testing on the bench, it is now installed. Just needed to move the pin over. And run ignition switched 12v from tcase switch.

It was about time to finally service the burb a bit more. Had a lot of temp fixes to get it going after making sure wheels don't fall off any more. Spark plug wires that were recrimped and elec tape wrapped, leaking intake manifold, leaking injectors, tired steering box, ancient spark plugs and distributor somewhat in the right spot(still one tooth off). Slowly started with disassembly this evening.
Was originally going to ignore the engine as building a new one, but that is dragging on for a while.

The red pipe wrench in the picture is the one I had to buy at midnight many years ago doing similar service on my 97 c3500 I had at the time. Had a road trip the following day and pipe wrench was all I could find to break the egr fitting at the time.

Was going to get the steering box rebuilt by blue top, but redhead offered to buy my other steering box cores so ordered from there instead. A bit more expensive, but get to sell some cores and get it faster. New injectors on the way as well. was going to push to get it back on the road by saturday. Need to bring in an old travel trailer for inspection

Almost ready to start putting things back together. Going to clean few things first.

And other than getting injectors and lower intake back on, I have stalled for days. Failed to contain poison ivy on one arm, now it is spread. I have the skin blows up type of reaction to poison ivy. Skin blowing up finally slowed down, and other than mostly using one hand mostly back together. Need hoses and new steering box

Lean codes? P0171 or P0174? Both?

You replaced the injectors, right? Vacuum leak? But yeah broke manifold bolts need to be replaced. You you hear a hissing/ticking sound? I think mine has some missing bolts (probably broken) and I sometimes hear this on the highway. I need to fix mine as well.

It has a bad exhaust leak due to broken exhaust manifold bolts. Been trying to ignore it, but might have to fix it before the other motor is ready.

Power Steering hoses and decided on timing chain/water pump. Trying to check for slack looked like about 10* before pulling things apart. Loosening the oil pan is a major pain. With new timing set 2* of slack movement. New timing set is a couple of degrees different from the original.
