Correct.

One thing I would think about if I were you before doing this though. Personally I would look for a way to eliminate one of the AUX coolers. I'm sure there's a way that you could keep (or improve) your current cooling ability and eliminate some lines and fittings. You could probably sell your existing cooler setup and recoup some of the cost of a new giant single AUX cooler. The TruCool LPD47391 40K comes to mind.

Kind of a personal preference thing, but if you're going to drop the cash on converting to AN it makes sense to me to run as little hose and hardware as possible and use the nicest cooler you can. That TruCool LPD47391 I linked has 45000 BTU of cooling capacity. I'm not sure exactly what that Imperial you have is rated at, but it's a plate and fin style as opposed to the stacked plate style like the factory AUX cooler and that TruCool so it can't be super efficient. I'm willing to bet that you'd see a much bigger temperature difference running just that big TruCool instead of the two smaller AUX coolers you have now. Plus you'd have fewer connection points, and therefore less money in AN hardware and fewer places for issues with leaks. Just my two cents.

You're killing me! :D
I've just started to piece together all of the fittings. I found the answer to my question, for anybody else who stumbles upon this.... The stock aux trans cooler fitting sizes are 9/16"-18 SAE flare. The only fittings that come up with that info are fittings like the Earl's 961982ERL which looks like it has regular threads with a crush washer, others look like they have an o-ring.

I do like your idea, just not the $120 part. LOL

I think I will go this route. You have a good point. I can probably get $80 for both of my coolers that I have. I REALLY like the idea of eliminating two hoses and two fittings. The Imperial cooler that I have is 15 7/8" wide, and it hangs over the edge of the A/C condenser by a little bit. I can't remember if the middle core support bracket is offset from the center or not, but I'm not sure if that 22.75" long TruCool would fit on the drivers side where the OEM aux cooler is. I will definitely have to get the truck in and pull the grill to do some measurements. Maybe I will have to step down a size on the TruCool and go from there.

I know there are people here who have run that giant TruCool 40K on these trucks, but if I remember correctly they said you have to remove the bracket that the horns are mounted to and relocate them. That way you have basically the entire front end to work with.

I get not wanting to do that, though. I didn't. That's why I went with the TruCool M7B on my red truck. It's just a few inches taller than the factory AUX cooler and actually mounts on the factory brackets once you trim them down a little. Definitely less cooling capacity than the giant 40K, but it fits great in the factory AUX cooler spot.

Not a fan (no pun intended) of that Derale setup that you linked for this application. IMO that's more for people remote mounting a cooler in a location with bad airflow. I don't think the fan or the thermostat is necessary for a front mount AUX cooler.

That's a good read, even though it's not for the 40k cooler.

I'm not totally against the giant 40k Trucool, I'm just wondering how/if it will fit with the center core support installed since I don't want to remove that. I actually asked a question about it on Amazon and got a response from a guy that said it will fit, he installed one on his 99 suburban. I responded back asking him if he could email me so I could ask him some questions. I haven't gotten a response back.

I guess worst case is I can order it and if I can't make it work (with a reasonable amount of work), I could just send it back. I actually love the idea of a single giant cooler that would take the place (and probably be more efficient) than the two coolers that I have now. Looking into that cooler is now my main focus. After the cooler dilemma is resolved, I will then go back to my -6an planning.

I just came across this. It looks like the only thing that I may have to do is cut the middle support and weld it back together, making the middle section flush with the radiator. It's down on this page. http://www.ls1truck.com/forums/lsx-truck-conversions/46877-my-1999-obs-c1500-lq9-6-0-ls-swap-3.html

I just joined that page and messaged him about it. I could probably do it, but my "fabbing" attempts usually end up looking like Stevie Wonder did them. Maybe I'll have to pull mine off, take some measurements, and take the bracket to a welder so it will at least look decent.

Well the guy from Amazon, as well as a guy from Facebook, both confirmed that you can mount it in front of that bracket and still have room for the grill to properly mount. I think I will mock it up like that and see how/if I like it. Obviously, the better looking alternative would to modify that center support, but if it doesn't look too bad being in front of it, I might go that route. I imagine that this cooler and the condenser/radiator having more space between them would also be better for the cooling since the space would allow for both coolers to dissipate the heat better.

I bought a 50' roll and ended up using a little over half of it I believe.
Know this is an old thread. Don't wanna hear about it again xD. looking to do this soon, would you say a 25' roll wouldn't be enough? Will also be upgrading my aux cooler

That would be my guess, but I never measured anything. I just eyeballed the amount of hose left over in the box when my mechanic finished the job. I can try and find what I have left in the parts pile and measure it if you want, but I don't know if it was exactly 50' to begin with so I'm not sure how helpful that would be.
