my 1996 K1500 is at 240K miles. I replaced upper ball joints and all the steering about 10 years ago. thought that would be the last time. well that was with a mix of auto zone parts i believe. the upper ball joints didn't last and replaced them about 3 years ago with MOOG, as well as one side MOOG inner/outer tie rods. the auto zone pitman and idler arm are trash too now. so my situation is now i need to do some of my front end again. my Moog parts that are on it seem still fine. the internets seem to be in consensus is that MOOG has gone way downhill. Im not sure if I'm keen on the way MOOG has the boots on the lower ball joints these days. i need to get lower ball joints for stamped arms, pitman arm, idler arm, one side set of tie rods, and one CV half shaft. i have the warranty on power steering pump and box so will be swapping them too. who are the go to brands now for parts? i really want this to be the last time. ( i say that ever time now) the lower ball joints are factory still hand have had slit boots for well over 13 years now. i see people talk well about MEVOTECH TXK line? are AC delco professional any good? i don't see an AC delco OEM line for the balljoints, unless I'm missing something. does MOOG really suck now?

Moog ball joints on IFS trucks are junk--I know this. The rest of their front end parts are fine.

I don't think AC Delco is offering OEM BJ's these days, their best quality is the professional line.

I highly recommend the MevoTech TX's. The lower TX's made my 96 K1500 steer better than any other steering/suspension part I installed.

What's the general consensus on Proforged chassis parts?
I've got Moog ball-joints on my truck currently, kept them greased but the boots are still gone and no matter how much grease I pound in them they still creak.

The ProForged uppers on my 97 are working well--I have about 10k on them. The 97 has 165k and the rest of the front end is still original. The Moog uppers I had on my 96 were showing movement on one side within 10k, on the other side within 15k. By 20k the Moog lowers were showing movement. On my buddy's 2000 Dodge 1500 the Moog BJ's were wearing within 15k.

I installed a Proforged idler arm and idler arm bearing not too long ago. My initial impression was good but when I yanked on the centerlink the other day to check it the idler bearing resulted in some vertical movement, kind of similar to the original 145k mile one I replaced. To be fair, the original wasn’t that bad, but I was expecting it to still be as tight as the day I installed it.

Also, when everyone says MOOG this or MOOG that, what MOOG line are we talking about? Their top of the line or their economy line that they sell to compete with the rest of the junk out there?

I told my wife the other day, I’d pay at least $50 for a garden hose nozzle that lasts more than one year! I’m getting so sick of having to choose between this piece of made in China crap or that piece of made in China crap.

I just did all Mevotech about a month ago, couldn’t be happier, here’s a moog tie rod next to a Mevotech tie rod, huge difference

I also installed Moog lowers less than a year ago on our Envoy. The boots suck, I'm done with Moog.
