Can it be tuned?

It's a bandaid is what it is. Later motors with better cats and cams with different profiles (which reduce cylinder pressures/NOx) managed to get by without EGR.
^^^X2 - I can get better results with EGR delete and adding HLC (Hyway Lean Cruise) which adds more SA and leans out AFR to ~16.7 with no KCs.
I also replaced my old 2-way cat with a newer 3-way that does reduce NOx.:33:

You will need to add more timing when you go into "lean cruise" Atleast on a LS you need to for it to make any difference.
I use to run 93 octane in a Cam/Turbo LQ4 and ran it in the high 16s/low17 AFR and 43-44* timing for cruising at 2000 rpms. Without adding the timing it didn't help anything.

You need to do it on any motor, the lean mixture burns more slowly.

Yes I'm running my SA (Spark Advance) somewhere around 42*+. I just didn't mention how much above.

I have a 98 305 2 wheel drive c2500, 1. I like to have better gas mileage. any work I can do myself to assure this. then an ECU tune/not sure what I can get tuned on this truck...a lean cruise, then what else?
