If I could realistically afford it, I would get a new one. With the new diesel. Nearly 30 mpg? Yes please.

Me too but I'm not sure about the diesel durability. The 5.3 though been around and proven. But I'm on the fence with a diesel. Also I belive with picking a sle trim or ls trim you have no say so on the motor.

You have the choice of the 5.3 or the 3.0 diesel

I'd take the 3.0 duramax over the 5.3 any day if thats the only options. If its me buying a new GM though its gonna have the 6.2.

I would not consider the new 5.3 proven yet.... many last lots dont.

do you guys know about the vlomf filter? that's the valve lifter oil manifold filter? it does not have a maintenance schedule unless they finally incorporated one. it filters all the oil to the afm/dfm lifters. it's like a stainless steel thimble screen. when it get clogged and afm/dfm operates but cant due to lack of oil for hydraulic pressure..... problems arise. its hidden under the oil pressure switch or sensor or something like that. its not all that easy to replace but it's easier and cheaper than an engine. the new 6.2's have dfm... dynamic fuel management and can run on one cylinder. the new 5.3's are the same.

I would think that if the vlomf has a scheduled maintenance then this engine "may" be reliable.

if any of you guys have not heard of this and have one of these engines.... make your own service schedule!

the 5.3 from 1999-2006 I would consider proven.

Gen 3 LS motors are great. Gen 4 aint bad, but need work. Gen 5 I wouldn't trust half as far as I could chunk the damn things. Not on a friggin bet...

I actually know nothing about LS Engines or what generations are what. All I know is that they can be rebuilt way better than OEM, especially without afm.

You guys on here know your ****.... all I know is many reasons why I wont buy a new vehicle with all that crap.

being a member on GMTC Iv read many afm horror stories and gm treating those people like crap. I researched into it far enough to think that the VLOMF is probably responsible for most failures. every damn filter in a vehicle has a scheduled maintenance except this one.

I think the next huge problem in GM that's just starting to pop up is Soy based wire insulation. it tastes great to rodents.
