Anyone have any strong feelings on brands of diamond plate crossover truck boxes? I’ve been poking around online, Tractor Supply, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Northern Tool, and a few online accessory sites. There’s plenty of examples in the $250 range but my concern is the quality of the cheaper boxes. There’s a review on one of them with a picture showing where the aluminum oxidized pretty bad pretty fast. UWS seems to be touted as a higher end brand and they seem to be about 2x the price of the cheap stuff. I don’t want to spend more than I have to but I worry about buying the cheapest option and getting some flimsy metal that bends and tarnishes in a year

I bought a TSC low profile box everal years ago, and it stress cracked in the corner. Not sure if it was already like that, or did it after I installed it. Took it back, got a refund, couldn't afford the nice WeatherGuard box, so I wound up with a UWS box. Had it on 3 different trucks over the course of a decade. Been fairly happy with it.

I've got uws on both of my trucks. The one on the 98 is 14 years old and the other is 10 years old. Both still look and work great zero issues. We have camlocker on our work trucks and they're real nice to. I especially like the carpet liner they have that keeps dust down.

UWS is a damn good brand, sturdy boxes.

I've got a DeeZee chest in the bed of my truck, it's small and lightweight but sturdy as hell. DeeZee also makes most of the boxes for Tractor Supply.

weather guard boxes are awesome, but super expensive.

X2 for WeatherGuard. My dad bought the one in my red '97 shortly after he bought the truck new and the only thing I've done to it in the last 20+ years is replace the gas rams on the lid.

I've heard that they're not using the same thickness of aluminum as they did on their older boxes, but I haven't seen a new one in person to verify that.

I have the kobalt (lowes brand) "low profile" one. The metal is fine and the finish is still in great shape, but the drivers side handle is getting loose and binds up, meaning I have to walk to the other side of the truck to open it more often than not. It's all riveted in so no bolts to tighten. :3811797817_8d685371

I bought it several years ago though so they may have changed since then.

Weatherguard is one of the best. UWS is very good and also manufactured in the US.

I bought a low profile diamond deck Husky from Home Depot, which, I believe is made by the same parent company of Weatherguard, just made in Mexico. I really like it so far. Very very similar to a lower end Weatherguard.

Craigslist for a used Weatherguard would be a great idea. Just look it over really well, make sure you get the key and the top isnt warped (like the guy said about Tractor Supply and I concur). Spend your savings on new opener struts or rekeying if needed.
