What cam and timing chain should i use in my 95

Double roller chains became a thing because fifty-plus years ago timing chains were crap. The nylon-covered GM chains were a bad aberration, but modern link chains are stronger and lighter than double rollers. Double rollers have a slight advantage in friction reduction.

I like the Cloyes 3059K; it has wider teeth (.40 vs .25 for most) and it's only $20 on RockAuto. If you need three-way adjustment, the Melling 40500 has .35 teeth and is $45. With either Cloyes or Melling you can't go wrong.

Got a Cloyes Street True set for my 98 5.7!

My 1995 gmc sierra needs a new timing chain so i figure i may as well put a new cam in as well since ill be there. Idealy id still like to be able to run ac, but id like a bit more low end torque. Something to kick you back in the seat when you step on it. Id also like a realy high quality timeing chain. What do you all suggesst.

I used a Cloyes Street True Roller Timing Set # 9-1100 in my 95 K1500 350. Only 117k miles so I didn’t change the cam. The original chain set did not have the crappy nylon gears, but the chain had about 15 degrees of slop.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. I think im gonna have to go for that cloyes on rock auto. I had seen it for $80 on jegs but for 20 on rock auto im just gonna have to. Now i just gotta figure out a cam. My engine doesnt need it either i just figure while im in there i may as well put in something a bit beefier

I did one cam-only swap on a TBI when I was a kid. It wasn't amazingly fast, but made a huge difference. I put in this cam: https://www.compcams.com/xfi-208_217-hydraulic-flat-cam-for-chevrolet-small-block.html

I also ran the Cloyes double roller on that one. Worked great! :driver:

I just installed an Edelbrock Performer Plus in my ‘95. It pulls noticeably better, but needed programming to run and shift better. It seemed to pull quickly enough through the midrange that it could make it to fuel cutoff before the trans would shift. I used matching lifters and appropriate valve springs in the change as well. Did valve stem seal while there. The engine was out for a chassis swap after the front end was shortened by another car. . Truck had 235k on it and I wanted to change the timing set while it was out and had your same thoughts to do the cam while I was there. The truck is noticeably louder than before too.
