Nothing in between the posts. Looks clean. The posts themselves have some discoloration but I’ve seen much worse. The one in the top picture was on the truck for over a year and about 20k miles. The one in the bottom pic didn’t make it 300 miles home. They are both from MSD. They seemed beefier than the AC Delco. Plug wires and coil are also MSD. Right now I have on whatever brand rotor and cap Napa had at the time.

I’m going to pull things apart this weekend. I’ve got to believe the longer trips either create a heat or leak situation I don’t normally have driving around town. The distributor shaft thing has me thinking.

Thank you for The help. Much appreciated.

The red made me wonder...

Personally I'd go back to ACDelco and see what happens. I've seen many more people have issues with the MSDs than I have ACDelcos.
Distributor and coil, yes, the consensus of opinion on this forum is that MSD is not as good as the Delco. But for cap and rotor, I strongly recommend the Blue Streak ones. Better dielectric strength plastic and brass contacts (Delco is aluminum). These work much better with our trucks, particularly the brass contacts are not affected by humidity in the distributor.

There's a reason many call MSD "May Soon Die" ..

Other than some of their ignition control boxes, I don't believe their stuff has much of a good reputation. I myself had to replace an MSD coil on a TBI 5.7 because it crapped out unexpectedly. OEM coils generally last the life of the truck.

And here I thought I was upgrading. I always used Accel back in the day and for whatever reason I thought they were the same company now. Accel just wasn't available.

There's something to be said about all that R&D they put into OEM products. Thanks again, I am stopping on the way home tonight pick up parts.
