So truck stuff. All about the 07 lately!

Started out the weekend by getting rid of my movie theater seat collection and now I think I have a total of 4 seats left. I made a post on FB saying they are free come take your pick so I had some people come up and take what they wanted before it went to the dump. Met some interesting people, and one of them had a 93 ECSB K1500. His front drivers seat folding latch was seized so I told him to take the bucket seat I had and take both apart to make it work, I looked at his truck and his driver seat only had two bolts in it so that it could tilt forward. He also doesn't wear a seatbelt so I could only imagine how dangerous that would be in a wreck!!

I had some fellow Californians come up and pick up the S10 NV3500, transfer case, flywheel, clutch, driveshafts, and ford explorer wheels and made $150 from that, which was good because it was all just crap taking up space. Two older folks that were extremely nice. They had an 87/88 s10 blazer with a trashed 700r4 so they were wanting to manual swap it.

I then did the rear brake pads on the truck, and those T55 bolts are dumb. My new T55 socket didn't help as it would want to strip so I had to break out the big torch and heat everything up as much as I despised doing that (melting boots/dust shields on the caliper pistons) but it's all I could do to get them off. I replaced them with proper 18mm bolts to make it easier for me or whoever in the future.

Big news however is that I have kind of been wanting a lumber rack for a while, I hauled 16ft cedar lap siding with my truck and my coworker's bed extender thing last week which was cool however after seeing the lumber rack be useful after watching a guy load kayaks onto one on his ranger yesterday at the lake sold me on one.

By the way I feel like I'm 30 now having this rack because AFAIK no other 22 year old wants a lumber rack on their truck lol

A guy actually had an 03 GMC Sierra 2500hd RCLB 2wd with a 6.0/nv4500 that had this lumber rack, I offered him $200 and we agreed on $250 for it. I drove down this evening to get it, taking the toolbox and headache rack off my truck beforehand seeing how naked my truck can be! I have to make a new removable bar piece though as it was missing.

Actually he wasn't asking a lot for the truck minus engine and harness, and honestly if I didn't have the s10 right now I would have bought the entire thing. If I manage to ditch the S10 in the next few weeks I'll definitely consider picking up this 03 truck to fix up. Would be fun AF I would think with a 5 speed and a 6.0!

Also this Google Pixel 4 takes amazing night photos (just saying for the thousandth time)

Also my current Montana parking lot. Need to ditch something to replace another, doing my best to limit myself!

I'll post another little update, not as crazy as usual but here's what I've done.

I actually washed the truck for the second time ever now, cleans up nice and here it is doing work duties. Today I actually did a half ass job painting the lumber rack while it was still on the truck by covering the cab with a tarp and running along the sides with a piece of cardboard. Looks better now (not in this pic). I also was able to track down a new rear cross bar for the lumber rack which cost me $115 but that saves me from making something to work so I'm cool with it. I'll have that at some point next week.

Earlier in the week I had ordered some LED bulbs in a 9005/9006 kit on Amazon and installed them. They are pretty bright and finally for the first time ever now that I have bright nice headlights now I adjusted them properly because they've been jacked up the entire time I've had the truck. The leds even have cooling fans built into the housings so they make little wurr noises which is funny to hear whenever the truck isn't running but the headlights are on. I actually ordered the fleece performance 6hi mod (turns on low beams and fogs in conjunction with high beams) to make everything bright. I originally wanted to tie my led pod lights into the highs but that didn't work so well so that's why I sprung for the led headlights.

Here's the link to them:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VF52VFT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (LED bulbs) $69.99
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019JDFGEI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (03-07 all lights on module) $24.95

I ordered 1-3" adjustable drop shackles for the rear, the truck is just too tall in the ass end for me and it's a pain to climb in and out of, so I'll probably go with the 3" drop as the truck has more than that in height difference between the front and rear tires.

The other thing I did was ditch the goofy tweeters I mounted in the plastic trim piece on the doors that cover the mirror bolts. As seen on the drivers door (which is nasty I did clean up the door panel a lot when it was all apart) they were mounted in the middle of that trim piece, which worked but didn't work well there because it would rub on the dash and just didn't fit right. When I picked up the replacement bumper for my truck I also picked up the two front A pillar pieces with the bose tweeters in them so I wired those up and replaced the trashed trim pieces with some spares that I had. Sounds better and looks better than the hack setup I had.

Other truck news. I am selling the S10 to my friend James (same one who bought Pinecone) so that's where that truck will be going, and at some point in the next few weeks I will go hopefully pick up that 03 sierra 2500. I would love to fix it but I'll only be getting a bill of sale from the guy and he originally bought it from someone else back in Cali so really I probably will never see a title so it will be a parts truck for me. The bed is in better shape, and I can use some other stuff and part it out while keeping all of the manual stuff for future projects or whatever.

Also I'm planning a trip down to Cali in October to grab a lot of my stuff and to take a truck back up here. I'm actually going to take the 91 K1500 ECSB that has a blown up 4.3/5LM60/3.73sf 14b axle and my plan is to put a 5.3 in that truck since the 4.3 is trashed. I have always loved that truck and it's a silverado trim with the power stuff, and my plan the entire time for that would be a LS swap of some sort. The HD would be cool but I'm going to see when I'm there if my ties with Willis aren't ruined so I can retrieve my stuff.

Other things I haven't posted about yet, here's Tyler's either 88 or 89 RCLB "K3500" (still has a 8600GVWR was just badged as a 3500 because it had a 454, they did this through 1991 then 1992 trucks had a higher GVWR for SRW 3500s) that he just finished an sm465 swap in and should have it on the road soon, I'll be stoked to see it in person! He's going to take the entire interior from the Q&D c2500 truck and make his truck nicer.

Here's the Pinecone as of this week, he added fender flares, rain window guards, and eventually window tint. The things I wanted to do with it. Since I took the headache rack off the 07 and the forest service toolbox I'm giving those to James so he can put them back on the truck and it will almost look like I never got rid of the truck lol

Also this popped up in my facebook memories from 2014 when I was 16. First towing experience I've learned a lot since then lol especially not needing a drop hitch to make it sit low like it did lol

Another update!

For the 07 I installed my expensive fleece performance 6HI circuit board which is really just a 4hi mod for me since I don't have any fog lights. These headlights are amazing for night time driving! Also picked up my ladder rack bar and threw that on yesterday. That's it for this truck at the moment.

Well well well...

I decided to not pursue that 03 Sierra 2500HD, because something else arrived in my posession.

An 06 VW Jetta TDI 1.9L 5spd car. Nicely optioned, heated leather seats, "moonroof", power windows, diesel, and a 5 speed manual. I think it's super neat I just wanted to paint the fenders and hood to match, do window tint, and then just drive it.

It was my coworker JD's car for the last year and a month or so ago he parked it since it lost all gauges and had a few other little issues with the other major one being something wrong with the electric steering motor, which he already had a new one in a box ready to go. I went out to his house earlier this week and we tried to mess with it, and got nowhere and it had a new issue where it wasn't building boost at all so at that point I threw him an offer and he didn't even debate with me.

I was super stoked to now own my first car, and the diesel/manual was the best part because I've wanted one forever just never had the opportunity to have one.

Well I finally had a chance to mess with it on Friday night, and turns out when we were swapping the computer out (which didn't help anything, did a anti-theft thing where it wouldn't even start so it needed flashing first) a vacuum line for the wastegate ended up disconnected so I hooked that up and we had boost and were now back in business. The electric steering still didn't work but it was drivable at this point.

Added it to my insurance with the 07 and it actually dropped $20 over 6 months so that was pretty funny because it always goes up for me when I add something else. I then proceed to drive it to the lake and hang out with some friends, take it to a grocery store, and then back out to a coworkers house and the car did great. Not super fast at all but it was fun blowing smoke at a tailgater in whatever car is like the ford taurus but branded as a mercury.

Later that night I started to head home, backed down the driveway, put it in first gear, started to go, and revved it to like 3500 and went to shift into 2nd gear and blew it up. It actually continued to run for a minute so I tried putting it in reverse to make it back to the driveway and then it locked up entirely. Literally blew a hole through both sides of the block and could see through it. We used a ratchet strap to pull it backwards 80 feet into the driveway so I could go get the truck and trailer. I ended up driving Pinecone home that night and would go retrieve my car the next day.

Sooooo while Pinecone was back in my posession I did some things to it for James like check all the fluids, fix the brake light, fixed the interior driver side door handle, and put the headache rack back on it since I took it off my 07 when I put the lumber rack on. Had to do some welding fixes but it's solid now so he was stoked about that.

I picked up my car that afternoon and it was actually extremely easy to load since my truck sat in a flat spot and we were able to roll the car into the trailer without issue.

This Jetta lasted 38.8 miles, and what's ironic here is the S10 I bought from him a month or two ago blew up at 9 miles, I just need to stop buying vehicles from him. I also seem to just have bad luck with things dying quickly and goes to show you what can and can't stand my abuse (green truck is a pass, 07 is a pass, the dodge is always a 50/50 chance, 98 k1500 was a pass, and then everything else is a fail lol)

I like this car too much so I'll be on the hunt for another 1.9L TDI engine to swap back into it. I actually plan to keep this car I have been wanting a nice commuter for a long time! James was super stoked about the S10 too he is all giddy over that.

That sounds like what happened to me this weekend! My boss's family has ranch property in south Texas, and when one of them gets a new truck, their old truck goes to the ranch and the old ranch truck gets sold cheap. Someone must've got a new truck, because he wanted to know if we were interested in another vehicle.
It's a 2001 F150 King Ranch supercrew, not a bad looker but it does have some issues. Needs a tune up probably, has an occasional misfire on 2 cylinders that threw a code. 4wd doesn't work, but it may just be the switch....and the right front window doesn't work. But the big problem right now is that the ac blew cool but not cold when we got it Friday. Had a shop put some freon in it-- didn't need a lot-- and we had "Cool Ranch". Then, got stuck in a stupid traffic jam on the way home. Shut ac off cause the temp gauge was getting into dangerous territory (3 o'clock in the afternoon, Houston, Texas in August on the freeway, ya think?). Turned it back on once we got home (2 hours to go less than 3 miles) and it's back to barely cool air. I've been told it may be the orifice tube but we'll see. I want to put leak check in it first and go from there. Other than that it's a decent daily driver, and it has more ground clearance than the Burb so better for rain and more intimidating in traffic. I'm going to take pix and post in daily truck pictures soon. It's just so damn hot I just want to stay inside now LOL....
It's nice to see everyone's trucks, cars and other stuff on here, and see how we all go about fixing things.....Sometimes it's really reassuring to know that you're not the only ones dealing with a screwed up car or truck!
