1993-up have 4L60E and no throttle valve cable. Only the accelerator pedal cable, and cruise control cable. (The heavier models - 8 lug trucks - have the 4L80E from 1991-up, no cable.)

Mine is an 8 lug C2500 with 4L80E and there's a spare cable at the throttle body. Cruise control works so it isn't that. Pretty sure I traced it back down to the auto box but I'll have to have another look to be sure - and see if it's connected to anything at its other end.

Do you have a pic? A pic is worth 1000 words.... these motors are computer controlled but I appreciate having a physical cable to control throttle. The only cables on my 97 k1500 burb are throttle, cruise control and transmission cable. Are you missing the cruise control module on the firewall? That is about the only possible cable I can think of that wouldnt effect anything if it was disconnected, except for no cruise.

Yes I have a pic - but not before I get my excuses in!
When I first spotted it back in January when I just got the truck I was up to my nuts with a whole bunch of other stuff so didn't pay too much attention to it until I remembered about it yesterday prompted by that other thread. Now, when I look at it it isn't a Bowden cable but appears to be a (white)electrical wire with a plastic thing on the end that leads to the top of the fuel spider connection block - even more mysterious!

And while I'm trying identify unknown components in my engine bay - what is this relay for (assuming it is a relay)?

Well I totally understand that but I do not know what that wire is for. That grey box is certainly a relay but not sure what for. It may have been added by someone for any number of reasons but I dobt recall seeing any loose relays like that. I'm guna be working on my burb later so I'll see if I can see any leeds....

This is 100% a guess so don't kill me if I'm wrong, but I would not be surprised if that relay is a replacement for the fuel pump relay. Vortec GMT400's are bad about burning up the socket in the electrical convenience center for the fuel pump relay. Instead of replacing the whole center, one could simply hack in a separate relay socket.
Tracing the wires / colors should help.
As far as that relay and that other single weird wire go.. once these vehicles leave the U.S. so many things could have happened. Repairs where original parts are less available, modifications made to suit local vehicle regulations (separate amber turn signals for example), things like that.. could take some time and investigation to decipher!

I can't see it being anything but an electrical wire given it connects with loom to the fuel spider connection. But an electrical wire with a plastic connector is a new one to me!
I had to dig it out from the mass of wiring there. There's signs that it was once mounted properly but it's retaining clip has broken. I think it is original and has 'made in Canada' on it as has many parts on my truck.

Are we sure that white wire is really a wire, and not just a retainer clip on a tether?
That relay may have originally hung off the side of the electrical center.

This is that propane truck right.... i is there an electrical solenoid valve to turn on the propane? I had this idea as I know you want to turn off your fuel pump when you dont need it. So there are relays that turn off instead of on. You could easily set a relay to turn the fuel pump off when the propane is running with relays instead of a toggle switch.
Good idea about relocating a relay if it burns up a terminal or something instead of rewiring the fuse box entirely.
Lots of that stuff was made in Canada, a lot still is but china is cheaper. For that reason I have removed all fuses and relays from about 10 trucks one day while in the junkyard... the price was free. I paid for 3 heater control modules though. $30 or something.
