Hi all, need some help. 99 C1500 Suburban, 5.7 vortec, all stock. Drove it 150 miles Saturday, no issue. It sat all day Sunday. Drove it today, several places, no issue. Came home for lunch, went to go back to work, started up fine as usual, but the brake warning light is on. Truck stops fine, pedal feels normal. What should I look at for this? I believe the fluid levels are okay. Did front pads 3 weeks ago, no issue from that. Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Just to clarify, the red one or the orange one?

If it's the red one, check and see if the parking brake pedal accidentally got nudged down a click or two. If it's the orange one, I'd check around and try to find someone local with a GM Tech 2 or equivalent scan tool that can read ABS codes.

Orange one, upper right hand corner of cluster. My parts lady has a scanner at her work, but can't get out there till tomorrow morning.

That abs doesn't throw a code. Mines been on for awhile now. No idea why.

Are you sure about that? I thought that GM Tech-2s could read ABS codes but many third party scanners couldn't. I don't own either though so I can't verify personally. If you Google Tech-2 ABS codes you get a ton of results concerning people reading and clearing ABS codes on GM vehicles with Tech-2s.

I changed the right side sensor package in October 2018. Other side was fine, the right side caught fire and melted. I think the hose had an internal collapse and the brake locked up. Replaced calipers, pads and hoses then, no more issues. When shocks were done in May, mechanic said it would need pads soon ( wanted to do them then for more $$). I told him that I could take care of it, and did 3 weeks ago. No issues then except for the spindle threads needing cleaning with a tap. The light came on yesterday evening and has stayed on since. Going to the parts house after lunch to get it scanned. Will post updates, thanks all for your help

Long story a little shorter, o'Reilly has changed their supplier on the scanner. The new ones don't read brake codes, only the CEL ones. My parts lady agreed with me that the left side ABS sensor package might be the cause of the light being on, since it is the original one. Until I verify that with a data read, I'm not buying any parts. That piece is around a c note IIRC cause it has the whole backing plate.
That symptom would jive with what White96K2500 said his truck did, so that makes sense. Usually it's horses, not zebras.....

Haynes manual shows single contact brake switch.
If brakes are disabling cruise control - brake switch is working.
OK cool thanks, I will check it out in the morning.
