You shouldn't expect trouble with an "old truck" if you maintain it properly. We just loaned @ccreddell our 2000 1500 Suburban and our 12k trailer to go after a 400 parts truck in Rexburg, ID, a trip of almost 800 miles one way. He was over 15k coming back. No issues at all even with 270k and still on the original 4L60E. It will get an oil change shortly (I do it every 5k) and the transmission fluid is just starting to turn color so we'll service the transmission when we do the oil change.
Yes, the 5.3 was working its butt off but we expected it to be smooth and it was.

I think I keep my truck pretty well maintained, but I rarely ever take it on any long hard trips anymore. It got me there and back without being stranded so I guess there's not much I could ask for. Well, except for ice cold A/C and passing power, but I'm working on that.

Slowly starting to get the list knocked down, new brake controller installed and finally hooked up the CB.

Hoping to get a set of lights mounted up on the bumper and get it tied into the cargo switch but it feels like the surface of the sun outside so I'm waiting for it to cool off.

You'll get there! My free breathing stock vortec 350 controlled by the old (BB tuned) black box, pulling my 6000 (?) pound camper - I can pass people fairly easily up to 80 mph.

@Mangonesailor brought up a really good point about it possibly being my FPR going south, I've done all this work this weekend and someone managed to completely forget to test my fuel pressure.

If it is the FPR going out, it's time for a new one and a set of 28LB injectors.
Gears are in the future too, does your truck have 4.10s?

Yes, 4.10's. I have also deleted my A/C, if that makes much difference.

If my truck had the 454, I would have kept the A/C. I still kind of regret removing it on my 350. Mine sure is easy to work on now though...

Another thing - I have 265's for tires. As a total package, my truck is matched perfectly to my camper and the package really works well. I liked the gearing better when it had 245 tires, but the 265's seem to handle the camper/road better when on trips. Getting everything to work together, the balance is a big deal.

Doh!

If you get eBay injectors witchunter will clean them, but, if he's gotta unstick them your best bet is to replace them with NOS or just give him like 10-12 eBay ones and pick the best.

Idk if you saw or remember but I had one that stuck open and was spewing gas into one cylinder. Couldn't shut it down because I didn't want the cylinder to fill up with gas. That's was a pain in the rear.

I ended up pulling the fuel pump relay and using my fuel pressure checker gauge to relieve the pressure and made it cut off. Pulled the gas cap and let it suck air back to the tank.

Changed the oil, just a SMIDGE of gassy smell... been running fine since 2018

I remember seeing you had one lock open, I can't even imagine how much of a pain that must've been.
I'm trying to track down some of the 454 injector info, but I can't find it. Wasn't there some of the 3800 Series 6-cylinders that had 28 pound injectors factory that fit in the fuel rail?
May wind up just caving and going the eBay route. Maybe try and snag an LS throttle body too.

Got the flood lights figured out! Holy **** they're bright. From about 40 feet away I could light up the almost 100 foot tall tree in my backyard. I'll get some pictures tomorrow night once it gets dark.
