Is there a reason that you need to spend $425 for a bare case? You could buy a core from a recycle yard for less.

just seeing if it was a reliable case instead of having to go the yard and possibly multiple yards till i find a good one

^ This.

Also after the horror stores I've read on various forums you couldn't pay me to run anything from Monster Transmission. Spend some time on car-part.com and make a few phone calls, I'm sure some yards in your area have good cases available, probably already pulled and ready to go.

Local self service yard gets $75 for an entire transmission with a $20 core charge. Buy one from a wreck and you'll know it was still running. Just make sure the wreck wasn't bad enough to shove the driveshaft into the tail.

Be careful which case you get. Cases out of cars have the 4 bolt plastic inspection cover while trucks have a 6 bolt aluminum one. I had that happen to me with Transmission Depot when I bought my stage 2 trans even though I told them it was for a truck.

I thought the aluminum inspection cover was just a 4x4 thing?

My 88 C1500 came with one.
Here you can see the 3 bolt holes.

Here's the cover

Must be nice! My 88 has the POS sheet metal cover. Well, had anyway. It's sitting on a shelf in garage because it kept rubbing the flexplate.
