Well, started with the rust clean up. POR metal prep did a pretty good job. Didnt get all the rust off but neutralized what's left. Now I need to get a welder to fix the hole and make seat brackets. Been looking at the Forney easy weld mp140.

Well pulled the trigger on a welder. Went with Forney. Good reviews and called them. Good support friendly staff. Made in USA. Now to learn how to weld.

A few quick rules for welding:

Take your time.
Prep your metal.
Use squares, magnets, and a flat surface to get everything square.
When in doubt, add more metal.
The more carefully you weld, the less you have to grind.
A close fit makes for prettier welds and less you have to grind.
Don't spend too much time in one area or the heat will make your project warp.
Tack first, and don't finish weld until you've trial-fitted.
When you shut off the machine, close the bottle. Every time.

The most important thing is practice. The more you weld the more you will get to know your machine and what to do to get the best welds from it.

Well finally got it together and some of the interior color changed. Let me know what you think. FYI the brown wire on the side of the alternator must be hooked to key hot to trigger charging. I did not know this and bought a new alternator.

Well finally got time to attempt the floor pan fix. Make fun of my welding all you want. First time welding. Pretty sore from playing contortionist. Next week I'll seam seal the underneath and get the floor coated with POR. Then figure out how to get the Cadillac seats mounted.
